Dear Parents, Families, and Supporters,
As we welcome 2026, we are excited to celebrate the new opportunities and experiences this year will bring for our Lakers. This is a time to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year, from student achievements to community engagement, and to look ahead with optimism to all the possibilities before us. Together, we can continue to support our students as they grow, connect, and make a meaningful impact on their communities.
While the new year brings promise, we also recognize that the world can feel unpredictable and uncertain. Here at Grand Valley, one thing remains constant: our commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where students can thrive. Our campus community continues to be a place of stability, growth, and opportunity, even amid global and local challenges.
Recently, university and student leaders had the opportunity to hear Arthur Brooks, Harvard professor and New York Times bestselling author, speak on the science of happiness. His message reinforced the powerful role community plays in wellbeing and in discovering meaning in life. College is a rare and formative experience of living and learning alongside others, sometimes once in a lifetime. We encourage students to build connections with classmates, floor mates, and friends, not only to strengthen their intellect, but to cultivate happy and meaningful lives rooted in relationships and purpose.
Your students have access to a wide range of resources designed to support their wellbeing, success, and personal growth. The University Counseling Center is available for mental health support and stress management, while the Career Center helps students explore internships, plan their careers, and gain hands on experience. For students facing academic or personal challenges, Student Support Services provides coaching and guidance, and our Campus Safety team works to ensure a secure and welcoming environment for everyone on campus. Families can also explore our Directory of Resources to find additional support services your student may need throughout the year.
Community remains at the heart of the Laker experience. From service initiatives to collaborative projects and student organizations, students have countless opportunities to build meaningful connections while contributing to the world around them. These experiences not only enrich their education, but also foster resilience, empathy, and leadership skills that extend well beyond graduation.
We are dedicated to a student-centered approach that meets the unique needs and aspirations of each learner. By tailoring experiences to individual strengths and interests, we prepare students to navigate an unpredictable future with confidence and purpose. Encouraging your student to take advantage of personalized academic advising, career guidance, study abroad programs, and experiential learning opportunities will help them make the most of their time at Grand Valley.
Thank you for your continued support as part of the Laker Family. Together, we can make 2026 a year of growth, connection, happiness, and meaningful achievement for every student.
