MAGNIFY | SOMC Groundbreaking

IT'S OFFICIAL! We've broken ground on the new site of the School of Medicine Columbia, the first building that's part of the University of South Carolina's transformative $300 million Health Sciences Campus in the city's reimagined BullStreet District. Set to be completed by August 2027, construction is underway alongside Harden Street in the now USC-branded, fenced-in space that will be the home to the cutting-edge 300,000-square-foot-plus biomedical education and research facility close to Prisma Health Richland.

On Tuesday, Feb. 25, Interim Dean Gerald Harmon, MD, gave a warm welcome to a full crowd of alumni, donors and friends of the University, and introduced an influential lineup of speakers that included USC President Michael Amiridis, USC Board Chair Thad Westbrook, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, and others who shared their enthusiasm for the future of health care education in the Midlands and state.

FOCUS | Alumni Spotlight: Rachel Parker, MD

Rachel Parker, MD, is a two-time graduate of the University of South Carolina, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences and her medical degree from the School of Medicine Columbia in 2019. She was a Fulbright Scholar at USC, and is an OBGYN with Lexington Medical Center. Click on the video to hear more about Dr. Parker's path to medicine and how she's making an impact in the Midlands.
