INTEGRATING AI INTO TEACHING AND LEARNING

It is crucial to clearly communicate your expectations regarding AI usage to your students; please ensure that your syllabus contains explicit AI usage statements (examples are available on our AI website) and that your assignments include clear instructions and rubrics to guide students appropriately.

In addition to information about syllabus statements, recommended AI tools, news, and instructional guidelines, we have added new information to our Teaching with AI site like:

  • links to MLA, APA, Chicago, and ACS citation websites to help students properly cite their use of AI
  • more suggestions on how you can integrate AI into your assignments and assessments
  • data security information for using AI

We also recommend you share the Student Guide to Generative AI with your students. Link it to your syllabus and your Canvas site!

Are you integrating AI into your pedagogy in interesting and innovative ways? We’d love to hear about it and support you!

Schedule an individual meeting with one of our CTE consultants, and mark your calendar for our AI and Academic Misconduct zoom workshop on February 12!

PROVIDING ACCOMMODATIONS FOR STUDENTS

All instructors receive notices from the Center for Disability and Access when their students require accommodations, but there are things you can do that will benefit ALL students, regardless of whether they are seeking support from CDA. CTE’s Teaching for All document provides guidance for instructors on creating an accessible classroom environment that implements principles from Universal Design for Learning and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, as well as some practical accessibility tips for common tools like Kaltura, Adobe Acrobat, and more.

COMMUNITY ENGAGED LEARNING

The reclassification taskforce for the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement invites you apply to present your community partnership projects at the Community Engagement Showcase sponsored by Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Mitzi Montoya, Ph.D. and the new Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and CEO of University of Utah Health Bob Carter, M.D., Ph.D.

Finalists will be chosen to give a 5 minute “lightning pitch” on their partnership work during the event. A total of $10,000 will be awarded to help continue great community engaged work happening at the University of Utah. Applications will be reviewed utilizing this rubric developed in the context of the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, which seeks examples of “high-quality community engagement partnerships are mutually beneficial, reciprocal and asset-based.” University of Utah faculty and staff who apply are encouraged to include their community partners’ and students’ voices in both the application and pitch. This submission process is also a data collection method for us, as all submissions – regardless of whether they are included in the showcase – will be considered for inclusion in the application.

We ask that university community members please share this call widely and apply with any of your community-engaged projects HERE by January 21st. We encourage those who are interested to please review the rubric for this process prior to submitting. Finalists will be notified by January 31st and invited to pitch at the Community Engagement Showcase in late February.
