Innovative manufacturing

Narges Shayesteh, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, has earned a five-year CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation. The funding will support her research into using refractory metals in additive manufacturing.

Maverick mentors

UTA's public health students can now participate in a mentoring program to be connected to an alumnus in their field. Through the BS in Public Health Mav Mentor/Mentee program, students get a firsthand look at what the public health field is like.

Public health disparities

A new report ranked Texas No. 48 out of 51 for overall health system performance, The Dallas Morning News reports. Kyrah Brown, assistant professor of public health, discussed how to address care disparities between racial and ethnic groups. 

Yale fellowship awarded

Jaquetta Reeves, assistant professor of nursing, has been named a visiting fellow of the Research Education Institute for Diverse Scholars in the Yale School of Public Health.

Tour campus this Friday

New faculty and staff are welcome to join a campus tour on the last Friday of every month. Guided walking tours last approximately 1.5 hours. To attend, arrive at the Dan Dipert University Welcome Center, 580 South Center St., about 15 minutes before start time. The next tour is Friday, June 30, at 3 p.m. Email questions to campustours@uta.edu.

University closure

The University will be closed July 3-4, in recognition of Independence Day. The Office of Talent, Culture, and Inclusion has prepared instructions for managers and employees on how to record the holiday hours in TCP.

Celebrate Independence Day

Don't miss Light Up Arlington on Monday, July 3, in downtown Arlington, which includes fireworks and events for the whole family. Get in on the celebration at the Arlington Fourth of July Parade, which will kick off at 9 a.m., Tuesday, July 4.

Seeking Title IX advisors

UTA is seeking volunteers for the role of Title IX advisor. Title IX requires that the University provide individuals to advise participants in the Title IX process. Going through the Title IX investigation process can be worrying for students and employees. Advisors provide the participants in a Title IX grievance process assistance and support throughout the proceeding.

Advisors are trained on UTA’s Title IX policy and other policies that may be implicated during a Title IX investigation. The time commitment for advisors is generally only a few hours each semester. If you are interested, please email TitleIX@uta.edu. There is training throughout the year. The next training is Wednesday, July 12.

Center for Service Learning fellowships open

The Center for Service Learning seeks faculty fellows for two of its programs beginning this fall. Faculty whose courses serve the community can apply to join the fall 2023 cohort of Service Learning Faculty Fellows. If you are interested to learn how to incorporate experiential activities into your courses, apply to become a Maverick Advantage Faculty Engagement Fellow. Benefits and Wellness Fair

Join UTA for the Benefits and Wellness Fair at the Maverick Activities Center on Wednesday, July 12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Annual enrollment will be open July 15-31. The new plan year begins Sept. 1. Learn more at go.uta.edu/benefits.

Rusty Taco opens on campus

Rusty Taco will open its first on-campus dining venue at UTA in July. The new dining spot will be part of the campus's current meal plan, allowing guests to use Dining Dollars and MavMoney. Through Grubhub, guests will be able to enjoy tacos via mobile order pick-up. More information is coming soon.

Seeking faculty associates

The Center for Mexican American Studies is seeking faculty research associates from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds for the 2023-24 academic year. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 14. For more information and to submit an application, visit cmas.uta.edu.

Government procurement conference

UTA's Cross Timbers APEX Accelerator will host the 27th Annual Government Procurement Conference Wednesday, Aug. 2, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in the University Center. This is an opportunity for small business owners to meet with prime contractors and city, state, and federal government representatives and make valuable connections.

New administrative coverage program

The Office of Talent, Culture, and Inclusion (TCI) now provides temporary administrative coverage through the MavTemp Program. TCI recently celebrated the outstanding achievements of its inaugural cohort, which has successfully completed the comprehensive MavTemp Training. Cohort members are now available for temporary assignments across campus. For more information, contact mavtemps@uta.edu.
