Zocalo Coffee Opens at Mission Creek Pavilion |
Looking for a cup of coffee to start your day? Grab one at Mission Creek Park (290 Channel Street), where Zocalo Coffee officially opened its first San Francisco location inside the Mission Creek Pavilion last week. The new waterfront café offers coffee, espresso drinks, fresh food and outdoor seating overlooking Mission Creek, creating a welcoming new gathering place for the Mission Bay community. Outside Lands Returns August 7-9; Meadow & Road Closures in Effect |
Outside Lands returns to Golden Gate Park from August 7 to 9. From The Strokes and RÜFÜS DU SOL to Charli XCX and The xx, the park will once again become one of the world's premier music and cultural destinations. If you're attending, consider taking public transportation, biking or walking to the event.

Launch Day on the Bay Celebration at India Basin Waterfront Park on August 8 |
Celebrate Launch Day on the Bay at India Basin Waterfront Park (900 Innes Avenue) on Saturday, August 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hosted by Rocking the Boat San Francisco, this free, family-friendly event celebrates the naming and first launch of a 16-foot rowboat built from scratch by local youth in the park's boat shop. Visitors can witness the boat's first launch into San Francisco Bay, enjoy free boat rides, food, drinks and entertainment and meet the young boatbuilders behind the project. Grand Opening of the New Gene Friend Rec Center on August 13 |
Come out for the grand opening of the new Gene Friend Recreation Center (77 Harriet Street) on Thursday, August 13 at 11:30 a.m. The project completely rebuilt the former facility with a larger, modern recreation center featuring expanded community spaces, two full-size basketball courts, an outdoor playground and other amenities for children, families and seniors. The event will feature family friendly activities including drop-in basketball, DJ, arts and crafts, karaoke and more. Learn more about the project at the link below.

Larsen Pickleball Courts Closed August 10 & 11 for Tree Work |
Rec and Park will remove a large cypress tree at Carl Larsen Park (19th Avenue and Vicente Street) on August 10 and 11 after arborists identified a significant structural split in its trunk. While the tree has been a cherished landmark and will be greatly missed, the department plans to plant 10 new trees in the park this fall. Summer camps and other activities will be temporarily relocated during the work, while the pickleball courts and athletic field will be closed.

Portsmouth Square Bridge Removal Almost Complete; Road Closure August 8-10 |
Last weekend, crews completed most of the work to remove the pedestrian bridge at Portsmouth Square, marking a major milestone in the park's transformation. Our Video of the Week comes from the San Francisco Chronicle and captures the demolition. Kearny Street between Clay and Washington streets will be closed from August 8 at 1 a.m. to August 10 at 5 a.m. as crews complete the remaining work. The project will create a new clubhouse, expanded playground, outdoor fitness areas and more space for community events. Learn more about the Portsmouth Square project at the link below.
