Grants Applications and Reporting
The research community is reminded that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Conflict of Interest Rules prohibits researchers from participating in scientific review groups (SGR) if you have a major professional role on an application. The ‘Integrity and Confidentiality in NIH Peer Review’ website outlines your responsibilities and the potential consequences of breaching confidentiality in the peer review process. Be sure to review the investigators and institutions for all applications carefully when the grants are release for review to assure that there are no conflicts of interest when you serve on review panels.

NIH Public Access Policy
Dr. Lyric Jorgenson, NIH Associate Director for Science Policy and Dr. Stephen Sherry, Acting Director of the National Library of Medicine, posted a guest blog on the extramural NEXUS introducing the new released NIH Public Access Policy by the NIH Office of the Director. This policy makes ‘the results of NIH-funded research accessible as soon as possible’ and also ‘removes the twelve-month embargo period to provide accelerated access to published manuscripts’.
