State of the University Address

Reminder: President Jennifer Cowley’s State of the University Address will be tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. in Texas Hall. Together, we will celebrate a year of accomplishments and prepare for the academic year ahead. Those who can’t join in person can watch the event live online.

UTA is one of just 24 public colleges and universities to be honored with a 2024 Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Award by the Texas Veterans Commission.

UTA partners with Dallas College

Opportunities for students to participate in research under the guidance of a faculty mentor are not offered at many two-year colleges. To help bridge this gap, Jianzhong Su, professor of mathematics, is piloting a program where students from the North Lake campus of Dallas College can come to UTA to participate in paid research with his department.

Documentary screening

There will be a screening of the Emmy-nominated documentary Decisiones: Datos y Cambio Climático (Decisions: Data and Climate Change) on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 5:30-8 p.m. in the atrium of the sixth floor of the library. This hour-long program was developed by Julian Rodriguez, a broadcast journalism specialist at UTA, and his colleagues at Catholic University of Colombia and The Weather Channel en Español.

National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Week starts today! Join HSI Initiatives in celebrating with the following events.

Foundations of Process Improvement

“Foundations of Process Improvement” will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the atrium of the sixth floor of the library. The session will provide an overview of process improvement methodology and an introduction to process tools. Register for the one-day course.

Campus master plan update

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to an open house event Tuesday, Sept. 17, 12-1:30 p.m. in the Rio Grande Ballroom of the University Center to discuss updates to the Campus Master Plan. Click here to share your feedback and stay up to date on the planning process.

Disability Employee Network

The Disability Employee (DE) Network semester kickoff will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Room 132 of the Social Work Building. Food will be provided. The mission of the DE Network is to promote visibility and build community for people with disabilities and allies across campus.

The recipients of the Outstanding Assessment Practitioner Award will be recognized at a ceremony on Wednesday Sept. 18, 1-2:30 p.m. in the Central Library Parlor, on the sixth floor. RSVP to attend.

Employee Emergency Fund

The Employee Emergency Fund (EEF) provides short-term assistance for employees experiencing significant temporary financial hardship. The fund helps eligible employees cover basic needs. You can donate to EEF through automatic payroll deduction or online through the EEF giving website.

Research Mavs

The Research Mavs Program consists of a group of librarian-trained student research tutors who help fellow students navigate resources for their class projects or papers. Encourage students to schedule a Research Mavs appointment.
