Help Shape Orange County’s
Transit Future

Orange County residents are invited to review the draft Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) Orange County Annual Work Program (AWP) for Transportation April 1 through April 21, 2026. The plan proposed $15.3 million in public investments for operating and capital projects for transportation across Orange County.

The FY27 plan focuses on spending money wisely while keeping current transit services running. It aims to control costs and still move forward with important projects in the Orange County Transit Plan.

Main priorities:

  • Support the North-South Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project
  • Improve services from:
    • GoTriangle
    • Chapel Hill Transit
    • Orange County Transportation Services (OCTS)
  • Provide one-time funding to update the Transit Plan

Investments:

  • Replace old vehicles
  • Improve how reliable the system is
  • Overall, the goal is to keep service quality high while staying within a balanced budget

Funding is allocated to six agencies:

  • Orange County/Orange County Transportation Services (OCTS)
  • Carrboro
  • Chapel Hill/CHT
  • Hillsborough
  • GoTriangle
  • Triangle West Transportation Planning Organization (TWTPO)

The plan can be reviewed on the Staff Working Group webpage (Draft FY27 AWP) and comments can be sent to TransportationInput@OrangeCountyNC.gov.

About the Orange County Staff Working Group (SWG)

The Annual Work Program is developed by the Orange County Staff Working Group (SWG) and subsequently sent to the Orange County Board of Commissioners and GoTriangle Board of Directors for approval. Both boards approve the plan before it is implemented.

The SWG includes technical staff and representatives from the County, Triangle West Transportation Planning Organization (TWTPO), GoTriangle, Mebane, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, and Carrboro. The group works to address current transit challenges such as rising costs, service expansion, and improving access to stops and park-and-ride facilities. It also reviews annual work plans and budgets, updates project programming and financial models, and develops project agreements.
