The retreat will offer time to slow down, build community, and support resilience through yoga, a sound bath, meditation, journaling, mindful eating, bonsai workshop, and gentle group practices. All members of the Emory community are invited to join in the celebration of Buddha’s life and teachings with Emory’s Buddhist and interfaith communities. Popularly known as Buddha Jayanti, Vesak, Vaisakhi, Visakha, or Full Moon Day, this holiday commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and final passing of the Buddha.  We will celebrate this occasion with traditional Buddhist chanting, Dharma reflections, and a communal vegetarian meal. Join us for a book talk with S.K. Oshi as he discusses his debut book Departure. This science fiction novel tells the story of Amina, a young woman who dreams of going on a sacred journey to explore the stars. But her dream is challenged when a chance encounter uncovers dark truths about her most closely held beliefs. Follow Amina’s trials and adventures as she navigates the demands of family, friendship, love, betrayal and the ruthless competition to earn a spot on the next interstellar mission. Buffet lunch will be served starting at 2:30 pm.

S.K. Oshi is an author of science fiction who enjoys writing stories about human values and beliefs in faraway worlds. As professional futurist and technologist, he enjoys building worlds where alternative technologies, political structures, and complex characters get entangled in unique ways and create settings for timeless human struggles: belonging, identity, love, justice, and faith. The Baccalaureate Luncheon is an opportunity for the Emory University Chaplaincy to honor graduating students who have been leaders in spiritual, religious, and interfaith life during their time at Emory and to reflect on and give thanks for their journeys as they become alumni.

From April 9-11, 2026, the Emory Buddhist Club, Hillel, Beloved Community, Alpha Phi Omega, the University Chaplaincy, and the Office of Sustainability joined forces for this year's clothing swap, where the Emory community was invited to both donate and “shop” for thrifted clothes. Participants were invited to answer Interfaith Jeopardy questions about the intersections of religion and the environment, and were treated to free reusable tote bags and Acai bowls and Boba. After the event, leftover clothing was donated to Emory Decatur Hospital.

On Saturday, April 11, VOIS Gospel Choir held their annual spring concert in Cannon Chapel. We so appreciated every person who came out, including students, staff, and alumni. Many thanks to VOIS Music Director Maury Allums for his leadership and to this year's choir for a beautiful performance. 

On Wednesday, April 15, the University Chaplaincy staff and Religious Life Affiliates were treated to a tour of the Oxford Organic Farm by farmer and educator Daniel Parson. Parson came to Emory in 2014 to oversee the transformation of a donated home and grassy fields into a vibrant orchard and farm. We were able to learn more about the workings of the organic farm and see some of the beautiful produce that will eventually be eaten at the dining halls and hospital cafeteria, or purchased at the Emory Farmer's Market on Tuesdays or through a subscription service. On Wednesday, April 15, the University Chaplaincy staff and the Religious Life Affiliates from the Atlanta campus visited the Oxford quad to give students an introduction to some of the opportunities and communities available for spiritual life when they find themselves on the Atlanta campus. Alongside great conversations and connections, Oxfordites were treated to games, iced coffee, cookies, and fresh fruit on a beautiful sunny afternoon. In addition to our Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, and Muslim chaplains, representatives attended from Baptist Collegiate Ministry, Bread Coffeehouse, Chabad, Glenn UMC/Wesley Fellowship, Hillel, Orthodox Christian Fellowship, Reformed University Fellowship, and the University Catholic Center. Thanks to Rev. Brent Huckaby and Ansley Holder from the Oxford Office of Religious and Spiritual Life for hosting the event.

On Friday, April 17, we welcomed admitted students and their families and introduced them to the University Chaplaincy and the WISE (Welcoming Interfaith and Spiritual Exploration) Pre-orientation Program for incoming first-year students.
