Staff Spotlight: Karen Mathe
Karen is the administrative assistant in the Social Equity and Title IX office. She began her career at IUP 20 years ago in the New Choices Career Development Program, which was under the umbrella of the College of Education. She then provided support for the former Onstage Arts and Entertainment program and the Lively Arts. In her current role, Karen is an active Social Equity and Title IX team member and assists her colleagues and campus partners with diversity programming and university compliance. She enjoys interacting with students and staff and connecting them with the services and support they need. Karen is proud of how the office has grown and has become such a vital resource for the campus over the 12 years she has been part of it. She is especially proud of the office’s weekly Social Equity and Title IX Digest and thanks the readers and contributors who have helped make it so successful. Karen is an IUP alumna, having earned an associate and a bachelor’s degree. Graduating from IUP has been a generational accomplishment in her family, as her two sons are also IUP alumni and her father obtained his degree from the school when it was Indiana State Teachers College. Previously, Karen worked in the Indiana Area School District for 18 years, and she has been involved in various community and campus initiatives. She will retire from IUP this June, and, though she will miss the many friends she has made here over the years, she is excited for her next chapter of traveling and spending more time with her grandchildren. We thank you, Karen!
