A Message From President Cushman Regarding UMA Houlton Center |
|
|
Dear UMA Community,
I am writing to let you know about some important changes that are planned for the UMA Houlton Center.
As you know, UMA, in partnership with the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s (UMPI) Houlton Higher Education Center, has been providing educational opportunities to the people of southern Aroostook County, northern Penobscot County, and eastern Washington County.
Consistent with a commitment in the University of Maine System’s (UMS) new strategic plan to sell or lease underutilized property, UMPI is selling its Houlton Higher Education Center to an area nonprofit, county-based Community Living Association (CLA) that provides services to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Therefore, starting July 1st, UMA will be closing its UMA Houlton Center.
What this means for local area students starting July 1:
|
- All students will be able to continue their University education through online classes.
- All students will continue to receive academic advising services through a combination of electronic means such as email, phone and Zoom.
-
Jasmine Folster, Student Services Coordinator at the UMA East Millinocket Center, will replace Jean Henderson and will be able to assist students with any academic related questions or issues. She can be reached at jasmine.folster@maine.edu or 207.746.5741
- All students will also have the option to take in-person classes, have tests proctored, use the computer labs, and connect with student support services at our East Millinocket Center.
|
I want to assure all that we have our students’ best interests in mind, and we will work with everyone so there are no disruptions in their educational goals.
I encourage you to call Jim Bradley, Regional Director of UMA’s Inland Centers, at 207.753.6520 or email james.bradley@maine.edu if you have any questions.
