SBCC Nursing Programs Lead to Career Opportunities
and Community Service |
SBCC Nursing students Ireland Cullum and James Hanna
|
Santa Barbara City College plays a critical role in preparing nursing graduates to serve our local healthcare community, and was recently featured in Noozhawk's Salute to Nursing section. SBCC's nursing programs train students to become registered nurses (Associate Degree in Nursing) and Licensed Vocational Nurses (Certificate and Associate Degree in Vocational Nursing).
Clinical partnerships with local hospitals, clinics, home health and skilled nursing facilities provide students with diverse learning opportunities.
“Our relationship with Cottage Hospital and the nurses and clinical instructors that they provide us has been extremely beneficial, with lots of hands-on learning,” says James Hanna, who is in the RN program.
There is high demand in California for both of RNs and LVNs. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 194,500 average annual openings for registered nurses between 2020 and 2030.

|
Successful filmmaker and SBCC alum Kevin Tran was born and raised in Santa Barbara. He recently returned with his family to live in his hometown after attending NYU and living in New York City. He’s happy to be back, and has great memories of his time at Santa Barbara City College.
“SBCC has amazing teachers and mentors,” he said. “When I went to NYU, I thought I’d be behind compared to others who were there as freshmen, but that wasn’t the case at all. I felt like what I learned at SBCC was on par with some of the best film schools in the world.”
