The Spirit of the Mountain!

The CAC Mustang Marching Band, also known as the “Spirit of the Mountain,” just competed in The Beaver Dam Invitational at Glen Rose High School where they swept the board with Division 1 in Band, Percussion, and Color Guard! Mrs. Gaines, the band director, is extremely proud of her students and all the hard work they are putting in this year. Every year Mrs. Gaines has a process that she goes through when picking the show. This year she really wanted to have a show that showcased some really strong players and soloists and also had a light and upbeat feel to it to contrast last year's show, Pirates. Mrs. Gaines also takes into account the senior class. She said that she wants to pick something that they will look back on with fond, happy memories. This year, the goal for the band is to make it to the state marching competition. To make it to state, the band has to do well at the Region competition at Maumelle High School today at 5:30!

This year is Mrs. Gaines' fifth year directing the CAC band. When she started at CAC, there were 21 kids in the program, and that includes 7-12th grade. This year there are 98 kids in the program. “I am really proud, but I don’t think that I can take all of the credit for recruitment.” Mrs. Gaines says that the kids in the band are working hard and learning more each day and they tell their friends about the band, which helps the band expand!

Volleyball with Kayla Myers!

Kayla Myers is a junior volleyball player this year for the Lady Mustangs, and she is absolutely dominating on the court! She had 25 kills in the the team's last match v.s. Harding Academy in the conference finals and18 kills in the match before where the lady mustangs swept Episcopal 3-0.

This year the volleyball team has had a great season, and this week they are heading to the regional tournament as the 2 seed. Kayla says that she is confident about going into regionals because this season they have already played most of the teams that they will be competing against. She says all their matches have ended in wins or close losses that went to 5 sets and exceeded the winning 15th point.

Kayla started getting into volleyball in the 7th grade because all of her friends played it, she also started playing softball then as well. Kayla plays club volleyball, and she says she loves traveling around the country with her friends. Kayla says that she loves the CAC volleyball team as well. She says, “It’s so fun, the energy is always so positive, and I love all the girls!”

Speak Up — Brock Carter

Brock Carter, an 8th grader, really enjoys reading. He says he enjoys reading because it gives him something fun to do when he’s bored. His personal favorite book is The Final Four by Paul Voluponi. Last week, middle school got to hear from the author of When Zachary Beaver Came to Town by Kimberly Willis Holt. “I really liked the author visit because she was really engaging with us and had us do activities about the books she did... It was really fun how we got to collaborate with her.” Brock also says that Mrs. Sheehy is who inspires him to read. “She’s really encouraging about reading and how it helps us."
