Family Weekend registration opens Aug. 22

Mark your calendars for Family Weekend on Oct. 13–15! Join the Vanderbilt community in fun activities that will connect families to Vanderbilt traditions and Nashville, your student’s home away from home. Registration will launch on Aug. 22, and a full schedule of events will be available later this summer.
During Family Weekend, the ‘Dores will play reigning national champion Georgia. VU parents and families will have an opportunity to purchase tickets early through a unique link on a first come, first served basis. If you would like your student to sit with you during the game, you will need to purchase an additional ticket for them. Be on the lookout for an email with ticket information soon!

Posse Scholar

VU strengthens partnership with Posse Foundation

Chancellor Daniel Diermeier announced July 7 that Vanderbilt University is expanding its nearly 35-year partnership with The Posse Foundation, a national nonprofit organization that teams up with selective colleges and universities in the United States to provide student scholarships and leadership training. Vanderbilt will add two additional cohorts of Posse Scholars to its campus—a second cohort from New York City, and one from Houston.

Mabel Cummins

A double crown: Mabel Cummins’ reign as a bowling star and academic superstar

Mabel Cummins has made the most of her surroundings at Vanderbilt, athletically and academically. She seized the opportunity to realize her full potential on the lanes, most recently leading Vanderbilt bowling to the program’s third national championship and earning recognition as the 2023 National Player of the Year. A neuroscience major, she was recently accepted into Vanderbilt’s master’s program for biomedical science.

Secure Dores initiative to enhance safety on campus

The Division of Administration will complete a project this summer to enhance the security of university buildings by installing key card lock systems on all buildings that do not have them. It also will enable Vanderbilt University Public Safety to monitor and remotely lock exterior-facing doors on campus. Vanderbilt takes a multilayered approach to security and regularly reviews emergency preparedness and security measures to improve and enhance them.

Vanderbilt–initiated startup gets $30M to build, launch nuclear-powered
satellite 

Zeno Power, a startup initiated through the Wond’ry, Vanderbilt’s Innovation Center, is on track to launch the first commercially developed space nuclear system in history. The satellite will be used by the U.S. Space Force to conduct first-of-its-kind mission types.

Rocket Team wins Altitude Award in 2023 NASA Student Launch 

The Vanderbilt University rocket, New Ham, successfully flew to within four feet of its 4,500-foot altitude target to place first and collect the coveted Altitude Award in the 2023 NASA Student Launch competition. The team also earned a first-place award in the STEM Engagement category.
