Smith's Place Mixing It Up

This term the student union food court, Smith’s Place, is flexing its schedule and sprouting some new menu options.

Smith’s Place will be opening its doors at 10 a.m. for grab-and-go convenience. While most folks are used to the food court’s sampling of pastries, drinks and sandwiches, PSU Eats Retail Operations Manager Gena Gore points out that pre-packed sushi options have been a big hit with morning customers.

At 11 a.m., the hot food stations open for lunch. While the 503 Burger Grill continues to be PSU Eats most popular station (did you know they have milk shakes?), new this spring are the taco combo plates at the Simply Latin station. Their hidden menu gem? “A terrific taco salad. It’s really, really good,” Gore said. “And no carbs.”

The food court still features Bashas’ Mediterranean with its diverse menu of bowls, burritos and flavorful items from chicken nuggets to chicken shawarma. (Try both and see.) This spring, the Ring of Fire station is transitioning to the Wild Blue branding with an assortment of poke bowls.

Smith’s Kitchen is open until 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday (until 2 p.m. on Fridays). Look for menu specials and the occasional culinary event this term. You can learn more at the PSU Eats website or follow them on Instagram.
