Register NOW for the ICTS 7th Annual Symposium - "Accelerating Translation: The Science of Moving Forward" 

The symposium will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 9:00am-1:00pm. This year’s theme highlights differences in translational research versus translational science and how projects can be adapted to overcome longstanding challenges along the research pipeline. We welcome keynote speaker Ruth O’Hara, PhD, Director of Spectrum, the Stanford University CTSA hub. Other highlights include presentations and panels providing real-world examples of utilizing translational science principles in research.

Congrats to the Partnership Development and Sustainability Support Program (PDSS) 2025-2026 Awardees! 

The Center for Community Health Partnership and Research is pleased to announce that three partnerships were selected to receive funding through the 2025-2026 Partnership Development and Sustainability Support (PDSS) program. The goal of PDSS awards is to support partners in developing their relationships, skills, and capacity to facilitate future research collaborations and strengthen community-academic partnerships.

WashU Investigator Credits ICTS-related Programs and Funding Mechanisms with Career Development and Research Advancement 

For James Krings, MD, MSCI, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care, settling in at WashU for his career in scientific research seems always to have been written in the stars. Krings has utilized several ICTS programs and funding mechanisms to propel his research and offers insight, especially to early-stage investigators, on how to get involved and create a network at WashU and how to implement team science effectively in their work.

ICTS JIT Core Spotlight – Digital Solutions Studio (DSS)

The DSS core offers comprehensive support to researchers and data analysts through strategic planning, professional software development, and proof-of-concept digital tools. DSS services help translate technical research data into accessible digital formats, enabling wider engagement with policymakers and the public. Additionally, DSS provides access to cutting-edge solutions like ChatGPT API endpoints to further enhance research capabilities.

Observe the ICTS Spring NIH Mock Study Section (MSS)! 

The MSS aims to increase the likelihood of grant funding success by providing comprehensive feedback to applicants on their complete grant application prior to submission. Observers are encouraged to attend to gain insight into how reviewers evaluate applications. Those interested in observing the upcoming Spring MSS can contact ictsrdp@wustl.edu. The virtual session will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 8:00am – 4:00pm.

Christina Gurnett, MD, PhD, ICTS Associate Director and A. Ernest and Jane G. Stein Professor of Neurology at WashU Medicine, was recently featured in a St. Louis Public Radio interview for her project that highlights the difficulties patients face in accessing genetic testing to receive accurate diagnoses - Black patients in particular. Gurnett and her research team were awarded with JIT Funding for this project to use Informatics Core Services, and the project was also supported by the ICTS Precision Health Function.

Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC) Seeks Applications for Mentored Training Program in Clinical Investigation (MTPCI) and Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI)
Through didactic coursework, structured mentorship, and interactions with a diverse peer group of trainees, the postdoctoral MTPCI and/or MSCI enables scholars to learn how to develop effective research projects, utilize human subjects in clinical trials, collect, analyze, and summarize data, apply epidemiologic principles and tools, consider relevant ethical and legal issues, write grants and manuscripts, and compete for research funding. Applications close on April 15, 2025 (for fall start date).

Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC) to Offer Summer 3-Week Intensive Course on Bench Fundamentals for Translational Research! 

This course will introduce fellows-in-training and future physician-scientists to the core principles of scientific investigation. This unique three-week intensive format will combine theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on applications to provide students with an understanding of common research approaches used in current scientific endeavors. The course will run from July 7 to July 25, 2025 and will be both virtual and in-person. Register for the course by July 1, 2025!
