This Month's Topic: Ending Another Academic Year

As we wind down another successful Vanderbilt school year, there are a few important dates to note as we plan for move-out and Commencement. Also, a few parents of the Class of 2025 have some pearls of wisdom to share.

COMMENCEMENT

Actor, philanthropist Gary Sinise to deliver 2025 Graduates Day address

Gary Sinise, humanitarian, actor and musician, will receive Vanderbilt University’s prestigious Nichols-Chancellor’s Medal when he speaks at the university’s 2025 Commencement activities. Sinise’s Graduates Day address will be on May 8 at 11 a.m. at the David Williams II Recreation and Wellness Center Indoor Practice Facility.

Technology visionary Matthew Johnson-Roberson is the first dean of the College of Connected Computing

Matthew Johnson-Roberson, a visionary technology scholar and highly accomplished academic leader, will be the inaugural dean of the College of Connected Computing, the university’s first new college to be established in more than 40 years. His appointment begins May 1, 2025.

Student team uses AI and filmmaking to inspire change

More than 40 students with majors tied to economics, history, engineering, computer science, music performance, math and more created the short film Imagine, which combines generative AI animation and live action. It premiered at the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December 2024.
