This week week we feature songwriter David Stewart. A highly successful songwriter, David has written several number one bluegrass songs for our August 2023 cover story artist Lorraine Jordan and her band Carolina Road. We talk with David about those songs and other highlights of his long career, including walking all the way from Wyoming to Nashville to play on the Grand Ole Opry!

Instead of our regular Jam Track format (which are recorded each week by Brad Davis), we are going to give Brad a break and reach back to offer a segment from a four volume video jam series that Brad produced years ago for Flatpicking Guitar Magazine. Here you will find the tune “St. Ann’s Reel” played at 4 different tempos. Each time Brad plays a lead, so you can practice rhythm, and then he plays rhythm so you can practice your lead solo. Enjoy jamming to “St. Ann’s Reel” in the key of D!

Archive Article - Edd Mayfield

Edd Mayfield played with Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys during several time periods in the 1950s. He had a great lead voice and distinct guitar style and stands out as one of Monroe's top singers and guitar players. Unfortunately, his life was cut short far too soon. In this Archive Article, from our August 1983 issue, we remember the great Edd Mayfield.
