Top Five Things to Know

From the Office of Provost Peggy Agouris

OFFICE OF THE PROVOST
WEEKLY MESSAGE ARCHIVE

Dear colleagues,

I hope that you had an enjoyable and restorative spring break.

What an incredible season for W&M basketball! Our women’s team made history this weekend, becoming the first in school history to win the CAA championship and earn a spot in the NCAA tournament! I’m thrilled to cheer them on as they take the court at the Big Dance on Thursday. Go Tribe!

Our men’s team also had a strong season this year, and their talent, dedication, and hard work will continue to push the program forward. Exciting times for Tribe basketball!

Here are the top “5 Things to Know” this week:

  1. Today is the deadline to apply for the open Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Development role. Submit all application materials by the end of the day for full consideration.

  2. Please be mindful of upcoming midterm grading deadlines. It’s essential for students to have updated grades so they can make informed decisions about their path forward for the remainder of the semester.

  3. You’re invited to share your perspectives on the use of AI at William & Mary as part of the Artificial Intelligence Policy Initiative (AIPI)’s efforts to guide the ethical, effective, and responsible use of AI. The Staff and Faculty AI Town Hall takes place this Wednesday, March 19th, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Commonwealth Auditorium in the Sadler Center. There is also a feedback form on the AIPI Website. If you are unable to attend in person, you may join via Zoom.

  4. As I shared earlier today, this semester marks the culmination of the inaugural William & Mary Art & Science Exchange (ASE). Be sure to take advantage of the wonderful ASE programming taking place throughout the month.

  5. This week’s shoutout goes to the team behind OneTribe One Day, which falls on Wednesday, April 2nd, this year. With over 760 participants last year, the faculty and staff challenge is back with a new $10,000 unlockable gift. The W&M community is invited to the One Tribe One Day Carnival from 2-4 p.m. in the Sunken Garden for free food, music, inflatables, Turbo Tubs, Extreme Air and more. The local celebration continues at the Virginia Beer Company from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Learn more at otod.wm.edu.

Finally, Dean Doug Schmidt is the latest guest on One Question With…?, a new podcast hosted by Strategic Cultural Partnerships. Get to know our newest Dean by listening to his episode, “Progressive Rock & Augmented Intelligence.”
