Hi neighbor,
We hope you are doing well and staying safe this weekend. Here’s a look at what’s planned on the Vanderbilt University–New York City campus this week.
|
|
|
|
At a glance: This week’s key community impacts |
-
Construction hours: Construction activity is expected Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.
- Updated access: The 21st Street entrance is now the campus community's primary entrance. Security staffs the gate 24/7, and all overnight campus entry is directed through this entrance.
-
Temporary chiller: The chiller is expected to be removed at the end of September. Neighbors may notice noise similar to prior weeks while it remains in place. See below for the anticipated schedule of when the chiller will operate to accommodate campus events this week.
-
Restoration activity: Final touches continue. Neighbors may notice scaffolding changes, material movement and noise from facade restoration and brownstone installation. Interior renovation continues in Seabury, with minimal disruption anticipated for the community.
-
Traffic and parking: Vehicles parked in marked no-parking zones are subject to towing. Deliveries and material removal will be similar to prior weeks, with flaggers directing traffic as needed.
- Event activity: Neighbors may notice additional campus activity, including vendor arrival and setup, to accommodate events Monday through Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday of this week.

More details: Renovation updates and impacts |
The 21st Street entrance serves as the primary campus access gate.

-
Impact: Overnight campus entry is now directed through the 21st Street entrance, which is staffed by security 24/7. The 20th Street gate will remain accessible between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., the gate is exit-only.
- FYI: This helps maintain a quiet, residential atmosphere in the Close during overnight hours for everyone who calls Chelsea Square home.

The temporary chiller installed on 21st Street will remain in place through the end of September.
|
-
Impact: The community may notice noise from the chiller outside the Hoffman boiler room while it serves as a temporary solution to central HVAC issues for the rest of the month.

This week's event activity
|
Events are scheduled Monday through Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday this week. Neighbors may notice event vendors and guests, as well as noise from the temporary chiller, as outlined above. In general, this week’s events should have minimal to no impact on the surrounding community. Most noteworthy, on Sunday, Oct. 4, Vanderbilt NYC will participate in The Longest Table alongside our community, with tables extending onto campus.
|
Oct. 4: The Longest Table
Vanderbilt University–New York City will join our neighbors for The Longest Table on West 21st Street. Vanderbilt NYC students, faculty and staff received an internal registration link. The event is at capacity, but community members can join the waitlist on Eventbrite. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
|
Oct. 15: The Working Class and Democracy in America
Vanderbilt’s Center for Global Democracy convenes timely conversations about the state of democracy and governance in the U.S. and around the world. This event will bring together a distinguished group of experts for a wide-ranging conversation about class, politics and the role of working-class Americans in U.S. democracy.
|
Nov. 10: Artists and the City: Emerging Voices in Conversation
Vanderbilt and the Whitney Museum of American Art launch their partnership with a conversation featuring emerging artists at Vanderbilt NYC. The evening will feature three emerging artists who have recently exhibited at the Whitney in conversation about contemporary art, their practices and the issues shaping artists today.

With the transition to student life now underway, activity on campus looks a little different, and so will the Inside Chelsea Square newsletter.
Our goal remains the same: to keep our neighbors informed and connected to what’s happening on campus and how it may impact the surrounding community. Going forward, we will share updates on anticipated campus activity, ongoing renovation work, private events and other activities that may be noticeable to or impact our neighbors.
Thank you for your continued support. We hope you have a great week!
