LEGISLATURE SHUT DOWN
BECAUSE OF WEATHER
The Georgia General Assembly was already scheduled to be off this week off but Appropriations Committee members were planning a series of meetings on an adjusted state budget for this year.  Hearings planned for Tuesday and Wednesday were cancelled, however, due to extreme cold and snow.

We will update once the revised schedule is announced.

STATESBORO SENATOR
TAPPED AS NEW CHAIR OF

SENATE EDUCATION COMMITTEE

State Sen. Billy Hickman, R-Statesboro, has been named as the new chair of the Senate Education Committee.

Hickman has been one of the leading proponents of efforts to improve literacy among Georgia children.  He is beginning his third term in the state Senate.

House Education Committee chair Chris Erwin returns in that position.

In addition, with the start of the new session, there are several new members of the House and Senate Education committees.  The new House Education Committee roster can be found here and the Senate Education and Youth Committee here.
