EDUCATOR OF THE MONTH

Babatunde Carew, MD, is the primary course director for the Shade Tree Clinic ACEs and AEs. Dr. Carew loves teaching medical students. "They bring a certain energy to the clinical setting that strengthens my passion for medicine and improves patient care." He finds it incredibly rewarding to be part of students' growth as they progress through medical school.

Babatunde Carew, MD

Dr. Carew's most significant role within medical education currently is at the Shade Tree Clinic, the student-run free clinic at Vanderbilt. The founder of the clinic, Dr. Miller, met with Dr. Carew early in his career and gave him the opportunity to serve as a co-medical director. Dr. Carew works with several medical directors, Drs. Chakravarthy, Weaver, and Wilson, who are essential in medical education at Shade Tree. He is honored to work alongside them in providing such a unique learning opportunity for students and an amazing clinic for patients.

If any students are interested in volunteering at the Shade Tree Clinic, Dr. Carew would love to have you!

Did You Know?

Dorothy Millicent Horstmann, MD, performed research that later helped to create the polio vaccine. She was initially rejected from Vanderbilt's residency program as the chief of medicine only chose men, but was later asked to join, shocking the chief when she showed up.
