February 24, 2025
Dear Eagle Nation:
As we celebrated Homecoming during our 125th Anniversary, I was filled with immense pride and gratitude for the remarkable journey we have taken together. I honored the legacy and contributions of our past university leaders with the unveiling of their official presidential portraits. I started this tradition because I feel it adds significance to our university. It has been Coppin's good fortune to have had each of them as president.

Last Thursday, I officially launched Homecoming delivering the 2025 State of the University Address. During my address, I highlighted a few of our countless accomplishments; while also outlining our courageous flight into the future.
We have experienced unprecedented momentum over the past five years, and since 2021, we have seen a consistent five percent annual enrollment growth, elevated our national and state brand, and completed millions in capital projects. We achieved historic milestones in student retention, graduation rates, research grant awards, fundraising, corporate partnerships, endowment growth, and alumni engagement. Our efforts were validated by the US News and World Report HBCU rankings, where we jumped from 53rd in 2019 to 27th in 2024, marking a 105% improvement.

Our campus serves as a living laboratory of human relations. Fall 2024 brought in our largest incoming cohort "Eagles Amplified" since 2011. The Expand Eagle Nation program was instrumental in growing our out-of-state student enrollment in fact the fall 2024 incoming cohort including 192 new out-of-state students, more than doubling the 65 students from 2023. Since Fiscal Year 2019, our tuition has remained relatively low, increasing by only 10% over six years.

We awarded over $25 million annually in federal financial aid, merit, and need-based scholarships. We aim to launch our Study Abroad program by Fall 2026. We secured over $31 million in federal and state support to invest in our campus and surrounding community. Our university endowment increased by 65%, reaching its highest level ever, and we achieved historic fundraising year after year. Our goal is to raise $25 million, and we have already raised $23.8 million.
Under the leadership of Dean Leontye Lewis and Dr. Quinhon Scott, we plan to transition Coppin Academy into an early college high school. Finally, we will implement our Strategic Plan by Summer 2025, continue to strengthen our culture of assessment and quality enhancement, and prepare for Middle States reaffirmation.

Join me tomorrow, Tuesday, February 25, at noon in the Tawes Ballroom for our campus conversation as I address the state budget, federal executive orders, and Coppin's stance during these uncertain times.
This is a follow up to the campus letters I sent out earlier this month.

Last Day to Vote on Building Names

Today is the last day to vote for the official building names for the Health & Human Service Building, Science & Technology Center, Physicla Educaton Center and Tennis Complex.
This is a moment to shape Coppin’s history, and I encourage every member of Eagle Nation to participate. Your voice matters, and together, we will create a lasting legacy for our campus.
