Dear Eagle Nation:
Homecoming Week has finally arrived, and this year, we are celebrating 123 years of history, tradition, and community at Coppin State University. This week, we show our pride in Coppin and our appreciation for all she has given us.
As a historically Black institution, we have done our part to strengthen and uplift the Black community here in Baltimore and beyond. We also embrace students of all backgrounds on their journey to earn a degree, discover more about themselves, and understand what they can do to make a global impact. Coppin develops leaders and gives them the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in the world and change it for the better.
I will deliver my State of the University Address on Thursday, February 16. I look forward to touting the great successes of our university students, faculty, and staff - which range from groundbreaking research to displays of excellence in the arts. I also look forward to sharing the vision for what we will achieve together in the months and years to come.
Immediately following the State of the University Address, we will cut the ribbon on the long-awaited Eagle Achievement Center (EAC). The EAC, on the fourth floor of the Parlett L. Moore Library, will serve as a central hub for holisitic student development. The EAC will house academic and career support services, comfortable collaborative speaces, and dedicated staff who are focused on guiding students throughout their journey at Coppin, from the time they are accepted, through their graduation. This center for student support and development will further strengthen our student success outcomes and retention.

Eagle Nation, we need each one of you to remain energized and engaged as we celebrate our accomplishments, navigate our challenges, and fullfill the promises of the future. You are our advocates, our allies, and the architects as we build our future upon a solid foundation.  I encourage you to show off your Coppin pride this week, and to join us for any of the great events that will allow you to reconnect with Coppin, and with one another.

Coppin Chopped

The Cookout is widely known in the Black culture as a safe space, specifically for acceptance, guidance, and wisdom. Attendance at the Black Cookout is a rite of passage; it comes in many forms, like family reunions, barbecues, and Juneteenth, because it is considered a sacred event. It promotes kinship, recognizes our history, and celebrates life and years beyond our assembly. It's an opportunity to reconnect with families near and far.
