| Consumer Input Needed: Environmental Emergency Preparation and Response

The National Health Care for the Homeless Council, in conjunction with the National Consumer Advisory Board Steering Committee, is holding regional conversations now through April to learn from individuals with lived experience of homelessness about the best ways to support unhoused individuals in the event of an environmental emergency and subsequent disaster relief efforts. These conversations, to be held via Zoom, will be highly interactive and will invite participants to share stories about how they and others with lived experience of homelessness have provided support to people currently experiencing homelessness in their communities during an environmental emergency. Hospitals are an important partner for medical respite care programs, yet sometimes these relationships can be challenging to establish. Understanding the goals and structure of hospitals can help programs establish a positive relationship. Please join the National Institute for Medical Respite Care for a webinar on Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. CST covering this important topic. Attendees will learn about the current landscape for America's Essential Hospitals and challenges they face. Panelists from Cook County Health and Regional One Health will join to share how their hospitals partner with or operate medical respite programs.

How Electronic Health Records Can be Leveraged to Streamline Social Needs Screening

Is your health center planning, implementing, or revamping a social needs screening program?
Join NHCHC and the HITEQ Center on Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. CST to learn how screening for housing status and other Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) measures can be introduced or better integrated into health center clinical workflows.
Presenters will share guidance on implementing and systematizing social needs data collection in Electronic Health Records, followed by a panel of expert health center representatives who will speak about their programs’ journeys with social needs screening programs. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, share successes, or discuss specific challenges they face regarding social needs screening.

Health Center Preparedness and Response Forum: Extreme Heat and Wildfires

Please join NHCHC and other National Training and Technical Assistance Partners at the next Health Center Preparedness and Response Forum on Feb. 8 at 12 p.m. CST, when we will discuss extreme heat and wildfires. This virtual forum is for all health centers serving priority populations, such as agricultural workers, individuals experiencing homelessness, public housing residents, and other vulnerable groups including older adults, and Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian patients. Expanding Harm Reduction through Increased Syringe Access

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Homeless and Housing Resource Center is hosting a webinar Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. CST to discuss the ways in which health centers and other community-based organizations can expand harm reduction services by offering syringe access to participants through direct service delivery and partnership. Hear directly from consumers of syringe access programs to better understand the impact of these programs.
