Sarvech Qadir

Wednesday, June 25th 12-1 pm | 1400 18th Ave S A2009

Join us for a hands-on introduction to JASP, a free, user-friendly tool for statistical analysis. Whether you are new to data analysis or looking for an intuitive alternative to SPSS or R, JASP offers powerful features with a clean interface designed for transparency and reproducibility. Led by PhD student Sarvech Qadir, this session will cover core functions such as descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, and methods. Sarvech will also explore open science practices and demonstrate how to create clear, publication-ready visualizations—all without writing a single line of code. This session is ideal for researchers, students, and educators across disciplines. Pizza lunch will be provided.

LIVE MATHia & Metacognition Data Science Challenge Update

The MATHia Math and Metacognition Data Science Challenge launched on June 2nd with 21 students competing across 7 interdisciplinary teams. Participants range from undergraduate to doctoral students and are working together to build predictive models that analyze math and metacognition outcomes using data from the MATHia digital learning platform.

Over the next six weeks, teams will develop and refine their models before presenting their final results to a panel of judges, including industry experts from Carnegie Learning. The winning team will take home a $3,000 prize.

Hosted by Drs. Cristina Zepeda and Kelley Durkin in collaboration with LIVE, this interdisciplinary competition was open to students from all majors, programs, and backgrounds. Participants are exploring real student interaction data from Carnegie Learning’s intelligent math platform, MATHia, with the goal of uncovering patterns, predicting learning outcomes, and advancing personalized math education.
