As a reminder, our hours at 20 Professors Row are as follows:
Monday – Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM
After-Hours Access: Students can request card access from 5 PM – 10 PM
Saturday – Sunday: Students can request card access from 12 PM – 10 PM
Even if your keycard works, you should not be in the building after hours.

ACE++: Apply Now!
Application deadline: March 21
ACE++ stands for Access for Computing Equity and so much more! In it's fourth year, this summer residential experience for current Tufts undergraduates interested in pursuing a major in Computer Science (CS).
This program is designed for those early in their CS journey, ACE++ gives students the opportunity to take two of three foundational courses in CS—specifically CS 61* and an option of either CS 11 or CS 15—in order to learn the structural knowledge and skills needed to succeed as a Computer Science major (Data Science included) in either the School of Engineering or the School of Arts and Sciences.

The Center for STEM Diversity (CSD) presents an opportunity for students to participate in the National Science Foundation's Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) research program. Students accepted as LSAMP Research Scholars will have access to lab research funding for one academic year!

Learn best practices for creating an inclusive classroom environment while having dinner alongside other TA’s in your department. Event will take place in April 2025, fill out the Google Form to vote for a date and time, as well as get an email with the final event info.

BEST: Cohort 15 Major Declaration
Class of 2028, Cohort 15, BESTies recently declared their majors! It was a moment filled with a sense of accomplishment as each student officially committed to their chosen field of study.
Adding to the significance of the occasion, Jason Rife, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, also attended, offering words of encouragement and support. His presence highlighted the importance of this milestone. Here’s to the bright futures ahead for Cohort 15!

opportunity for students to earn a free MATLAB Certification. We're thrilled to announce that this
Wednesday, the hard work and dedication of our participants paid off as they received their

WCVB Station Visit
The Center for STEM diversity, in collaboration with the Tufts Career Center, provided students with an exciting opportunity to visit the WCVB station. During the visit, students experienced a live broadcast, gaining firsthand insight into the fast-paced world of media and journalism. They engaged with industry professionals to learn more about internship opportunities. This immersive experience highlighted the intersection of STEM and broadcasting, inspiring students to consider innovative career possibilities.

South Asian Political Action Community's (SAPAC) Symposium
Submission deadline: March 10
Tufts South Asian Political Action Community's 7th annual symposium is their annual showcase of academic work, art, and performances from the Tufts South Asian community. In the past students have presented classwork, independent research, artwork, traditional and fusion dance routines, and much more.
Symposium will be in the afternoon of April 12th, 2025, in the Tsungming Tu Complex (TTC) atrium. If you are interested in presenting or showcasing your work, fill out the form above by March 10th at 11:59 pm to let them know what you would like to present. If you would like to submit in more than one area, please fill out the form again.
If you sign up to present your work, you are not necessarily committing to being physically present for all 4 hours, but they do encourage you to stay and enjoy the festivities. After you submit it, SAPAC will get in touch with you about scheduling for the event day.
Who qualifies to present at the symposium? Symposium is a space for South Asian-identifying folks to present their work. Your work does not need to specifically pertain to South Asian content, feel free to present what you want!

The Tufts Math Society is looking for students interested in volunteering at local Somerville middle and high schools to provide extra math opportunities and lessons in/after school. You don't need to be a math major! Events will occur 1-2x a month (1-2hr per session) starting in February—come to however many you'd like. Undergraduate students: looking for part-time teaching positions that contribute to diversity and equity in STEM? Apply to positions at the MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering, and Science (MITES) program. MITES is one of the nation’s leading pre-college STEM programs, focused on empowering underrepresented students in STEM fields. They're currently hiring for several temporary positions for the Fall semester, as well as an Environmental Engineering Teaching Assistant for Feb - May. Apply to the 2025 IRLI Summer Scholars program, where students earn a summer stipend and collaborate with Tufts faculty or staff on research about undergraduate education. - First- and second-year students: apply to the NESS NextGen scholarships for underrepresented minorities in statistics and data science. Application deadline is May 1. Apply here.
- Apply for Research Assistant positions at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston for this summer. No prior research experience is required, and they hire on a rolling basis, so apply ASAP! Find more information about the positions on their website.

- Break Through Tech AI is a free, 1-year extracurricular program at MIT that helps undergraduate women and non-binary students, especially women of color, obtain the skills and experiences they need to launch their careers in machine learning and AI when they graduate. Dr. Grace CaldaraDirector of the CSD | she/her/hers
Dr. Caldara is from upstate New York and holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine. She previously worked at Supermajority and Pantsuit Nation Foundation leading national leadership trainings, and developing diversity training for online communities. In her downtime she loves to spend time with her family and read.
As Director of the CSD, she works to support the CSD staff, all programmatic work of the center and co-teaches the RISE Seminar.

Grace MeloAdministrative Coordinator | she/her/hers
From Malden, MA, Grace graduated Boston University with a degree in Special Education: Disability Studies. As the Administrative Coordinator for DSDI, Grace helps support the eight identity centers, but specifically shares her time with the CSD.
Outside of Tufts, Grace's enjoys making flan, sewing, and at the moment, watching Ugly Betty.

Kasandra Yee Diversity Program Administrator | she/her/hers
Kasandra is passionate about diversity & inclusion in STEM education. Prior to her role at Tufts, she was an electrical engineer at Draper Laboratory in Cambridge, MA. At Draper, she co-founded the Asian Pacific American employee resource group (ERG) and co-led the LGBTQIA+ ERG.
She received her Master’s degree in Learning Experience Design and Technology at Northeastern University in 2023. By joining Tufts in Winter 2024, Kasandra will apply her interest in the learning sciences and experience in organizational planning to implementing diversity & inclusion best practices. Kasandra works directly with students and faculty of the Tufts Gordon Institute, Derby Entrepreneurship Center, Chemical and Biological Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering department.

Mafalda Gueta Associate Director of Diversity & Inclusion Programs | he/him/his
Mafalda earned his BA in Liberal Arts from the University of California, Riverside followed by a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University. He is currently a candidate for a Master of Arts in the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice Leadership program here at Tufts.
As an Associate Director, Mafalda currently works to support Mechanical Engineering and Civil & Environmental Engineering towards building an accessible, inclusive and diverse culture within each department by partnering directly with faculty. From talking to students to learn more about their experiences in the department, to training faculty and adapting curriculum, Mafalda works to make sure students feel safe and successful while at Tufts.

Simone Nicholson Diversity and Inclusion Program Administrator | she/her/hers
Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Simone Nicholson completed her bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University. Currently, she is a third year Engineering and Computing Education Doctoral Student with a minor in women and gender studies.
In her role as a DIPA, she supports students, faculty, and staff within the CS and ECE departments with diversity, equity, and inclusion related areas through programs, trainings, personalized learning needs, etc.

Sehba Hasan Associate Director of the CSD | she/her/hers
Sehba is an Electronics and Telecommunications Engineer, hailing from Maharashtra, India. She did her MBA in Management here in the US. Coming from a culturally rich and diverse landscape of India, Sehba has found inspiration in her background to contribute meaningfully to the DEIJ work.
In her role at the CSD, she is dedicated to supporting and championing the cause of underrepresented minorities, BIPOC communities, low-income, and first-generation students across various majors within the School of Engineering and Arts and Science. She is involved in co-teaching the RISE seminar class and oversees the management of the BEST program, among other responsibilities.

Sophia Hamdan Program Administrator | she/her/hers
Originally from Leesburg, Virginia, Sophia earned her Bachelor's degree in English and Philosophy from the University of Mary Washington, a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration from Boston College, and a second Master's degree in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice Leadership from Tufts.
In her role as Program Administrator, she advises the STEM Ambassadors program, supports the BEST Summer Program, serves as an academic advisor, writes the CSD's monthly newsletter, and collaborates with colleagues on and off campus to support all the incredible students at Tufts.
