Juneteenth, officially called Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, specifically on June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom. It's a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the legacy of African American communities. Several communities in St. Louis will celebrate Juneteenth with a range of events, concerts, and other activities. Check out the Griot Museum of Black History's Celebration plans and the march.
