Know your farmer, know where your food came from!
Every week, the trucks roll into the market absolutely PACKED. And when we say packed, we mean “How in the world did they fit all of that in there?!”
But last weekend? Those same trucks headed home looking pretty empty—and that’s all because of YOU!
Every purchase, every visit, every bag of fresh produce, and every stop at the market makes a difference. You’re helping our farmers thrive, supporting small businesses, and keeping our market growing strong.
We truly can’t thank you enough for showing up, shopping local, and supporting the farmers who work so hard to bring the very best to our community. Here’s to the rest of the season—and to keeping those trucks empty!
This Sunday, we welcome our makers back to the market! Stop by Village Green—the space between Village Hall and Skokie Public Library—to shop 15+ talented local artisans and discover something new.
Let's continue to support our community by cleaning out those cupboards or picking up a few extra boxes of cereal at the store. This Sunday, we're holding a food drive to help support the Niles Township Food Pantry. Bring any non-perishable food items / toiletries to the green Skokie Farmers' Market tent located on the Oakton Street side of the market.
Let’s GROW! 🌱 Save the Date for Sunday, September 13! Get ready for a morning packed with fun for the whole family! We’ll have several FREE kids’ activities happening throughout the market, giving little shoppers plenty of opportunities to play, create, explore, and have fun. Bring the whole crew and make a morning of it at the Skokie Farmers' Market.
If you're looking for a specific vendor at the market and can't find them, please stop by the green Skokie Farmers' Market tent and market staff will point you in the right direction.
We always want to hear from you! Please email us at farmersmarket@skokie.org with any questions!
Remember to tag us in your social media posts! We love sharing photos. You can find us on Facebook and Instagram.

Farmers Market Food Storage Tips
Many of you have asked for tips and tricks on storing your farmers market goodies.
|
Countertop Storage for Unripe or Ripe-Soon Tomatoes
Keep them out of the sun: Put them in a cool spot away from direct light.
Store stem-side down: Place them upside down on a plate or paper towel. This stops air from getting in and keeps moisture from escaping.
Use tape on the stem: If the stem is gone, put a small piece of clean tape over the scar to help lock in freshness.
Keep them separate: Do not stack them on top of each other so they do not bruise. Keep them away from bananas and avocados, which make them ripen too fast.
Refrigeration for Fully Ripe Tomatoes
Know when to chill: Only put ripe tomatoes in the fridge if you cannot eat them right away. Cold air can change the texture and flavor, but it stops ripe tomatoes from rotting.
Warm them up: Take the tomatoes out of the fridge and let them sit the counter for a bit before you eat them so they taste better.
Cherry tomatoes: Small cherry tomatoes handle the fridge much better than large tomatoes and can stay fresh in a container for up to a few weeks.

Jennifer Engel
Certified Market Manager
This season marks Jennifer’s 6th year leading the Skokie Farmers’ Market, where her passion for local food and community has helped her grow the market. She brings two decades of experience in marketing and community relations from her current role at Chicago’s North Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Jennifer’s green thumb is next level—her home garden is basically a farmers market of its own. From corn to potatoes, she grows it all! Ask her about the luffas! (no they don't grow in the ocean!) Jennifer is focused on helping others and is active in many community groups. When she’s off the clock, you’ll likely find her on a trail with her partner Ira and their three rescue pups.

Steve Klebe
Assistant Manager
This is Steve's 5th year at the Skokie Farmers' Market. He is in charge of the Link /Match program, where you'll find him at the Market tent throughout the season. At home, he shares a big yard (complete with a native prairie and woodland garden) with his three rescue dogs.
A big fan of camping and Jimmy Buffett tunes, Steve is excited to be part of the Market this season. He’s looking forward to connecting with both customers and farmers—and picking up a few good gardening tips along the way!
