Commencement is my favorite day of the year. Watching the students receive their credential after all of their hard work. Despite struggles. Despite doubts. The pride and joy on their faces brings tears every time. So many of our students are first generation students - the first in their families to get a degree. The whoops and shouts as each student's name is read blast out from various parts of the arena. The energy is pure heaven. We try to capture some of it in photos to share with you. One photo isn't enough, so check out the highlight video below. 

Just a week or so after commencement, An Evening with MCC brought together nearly 500 for the culminating event of our Centennial year. This celebration pulled out all the stops! Check out the highlight video below for a look at how the night played out.

On Friday, May 8, 2026, the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to ask voters in Muskegon County to consider an operating millage restoration proposal on Tuesday, August 4. The proposal would restore 0.2980 mills, returning the college’s operating millage to the 2.4 mills originally approved by voters in 1993.

A lot has changed in 30 years. In 1993, Muskegon Community College used mostly paper-based systems and had few modern safety tools. Today, we rely on digital technology for learning, operations, security, and student support.

Muskegon Community College has been awarded a Global Silver Telly Award in the general college/ university category for its Bring It Out television commercial, earning international recognition in one of the world’s most prestigious competitions honoring excellence in video and television production.

The Telly Awards is the premier global competition recognizing outstanding video and television content across all screens. Each year, nearly 13,000 entries are submitted by advertising agencies, television networks, production companies, educational institutions, and creative professionals from around the world. Colleges and universities compete in categories recognizing excellence in storytelling, marketing, and promotional communications.

Check out the annual student art exhibition live or through this awards video! This show features the best student artwork produced in the last academic year. The reception took place on June 2, 2026. The art will remain on display until September 3, 2026 in the Overbrook Art Gallery.

Meet Maurice Watson! 

Maurice is a local student AND entrepreneur. He does a little bit of everything! After a bit of a rocky high school experience, he spent some time traveling the country and exploring his career options and skills before returning to Muskegon. During this time, he didn’t find one passion—he found many! Over the years, Maurice has developed the spirit of an entrepreneur. He now runs his own business consulting firm, called Mau Solutions, where he works with local businesses and clients. He also has a painting business, called Mitten Painting, and is in the process of writing a cookbook!

Maurice is taking business classes at MCC. He knows that career success stems from education and preparation, and he is dedicated to making his businesses grow and become more successful by applying his education to his real-world projects. He inspires his sons to take school seriously by having some friendly competition in the house about who is getting the best grades (and dad likes to win!)
