Failure is a part of life and can lead to significant personal and professional consequences for medical professionals. In this talk, we will explore how failure and shared vulnerability can be a powerful tool for learning and provide strategies to help facilitate discussion around errors to promote growth and professional identity formation.

This event is open to all UVM Larner College of Medicine faculty, staff, and students at all teaching sites in the University of Vermont Health Network and the Clinical Branch Campus/Nuvance Health in Connecticut.

The Teaching Academy is pleased to announce the following award opportunities for members in 2026.
Teaching Academy Curriculum Development and Educational Scholarship Award
The Teaching Academy will present an award, up to $10,000, to fund projects that foster innovation and improvement in teaching, learning, and educational scholarship. Visit the Teaching Academy website for eligibility and details. Proposals are due May 1, 2026.
Teaching Academy Travel Award
The Teaching Academy will award up to three travel awards, up to $1,000 each, to support member travel to present educational scholarship or attend professional development events related to the mission of the Teaching Academy. Visit the Teaching Academy website for eligibility and details. Proposals are due May 1, 2026.
Teaching Academy Publication Stipend
The Teaching Academy Publication Stipend is dedicated to helping members defray publication costs of up to $500 for manuscripts on health professions education or medical education-related topics accepted for publication in education journals or education-focused sections of relevant academic journals. The Vermont Psychological Association Service Award is awarded by the VPA Board of Directors to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the field of psychology. The VPA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the 2025 recipient of the VPA Service Award is Lee Rosen, PhD, Teaching Academy Expert Teacher and Associate Professor of Psychiatry.
Amanda G. Kennedy, PharmD, BCPS, Professor and Quality Scholar, Medicine, was elected to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) House of Delegates. This national service role involves establishing professional policy that shapes the present and future of hospital and health-system pharmacy practice.

Berns, MD, Teaching Academy Distinguished Educator, and Kacey Boyle, MSPC, RN, CHPN, who created TalkVermont to foster meaningful and critical conversations with patients and their families around their goals of care.
