Last fall, we announced that the University would begin using official email addresses for all students to enhance communication and security. In response to community feedback regarding the originally planned mid-semester implementation, we decided to postpone the rollout to this summer.
We are now ready to implement the official email addresses for all students in a two-phased approach covering incoming and current students. The first phase for incoming students will be implemented on May 8, followed by current students on July 13.
Key Changes:
- University-Provided Email: When students enter the University, they are provided a university email in the format of [eid]@my.utexas.edu.
- Official Email Correspondence—University systems will automatically pull in the [eid]@my.utexas.edu email addresses. If you maintain listservs, please plan to update those to ensure students continue to receive your emails. Faculty should use Canvas to communicate with students to limit any disruption to class communications.
- Improved Communication: Official student email addresses will ensure students receive essential information on a reliable, secure University-maintained email platform, promoting academic success and engagement.
- Access to Tools: Students will have access to Microsoft Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and OneDrive at no extra cost. These tools can aid students in managing their academic work and better prepare them for entering the workforce.
- Access to Microsoft Copilot Chat: Students will have access to Copilot Chat, an AI-powered chatbot designed to enhance productivity that is easy to use, even for those without technical expertise.
- Enhanced Collaboration: The new official email and tools integrate better with university services for enhanced collaboration.
Helping Students:
- The Using Your UT Official Student Email knowledge article provides students with common FAQs on how to access their official email.
- Students will receive several notifications with information about their new email.
- Faculty, staff, and students can contact the UT Service Desk for additional support.
