Mary Wheeler will lead a discussion of the novel Theo of Golden by Allen Levi.  The story centers around the age-old plot of a mysterious stranger coming to town. Staying for only one year, this elderly gentleman finds himself in a welcoming southern coffee shop, mesmerized by a wall of 92 framed pencil portraits of local people. One by one, he purchases each portrait and arranges meetings of "bestowals" by the town square fountain, whereby he gives them back to their rightful owners. Conversations ensue, and because of his genuine interest in each individual, friendships are knit, and the community becomes more cohesive. Kindness is contagious, and Theo's gentle, generous presence brings transformational healing where it is sorely needed.

The author of the novel, Allen Levi, is a former lawyer, judge, and singer/songwriter.  In the novel, he invites all readers to believe in the goodness nestled in every person. Please join us for this presentation, whether or not you have read the book! Bring questions and observations from your reading, or come with curiosity for how one compassionate person can make a difference.

Are you searching for stillness?  Looking for a way to be more present during the Lenten season? Craving the felt presence of God?  Then Centering Prayer may be for you. Westminster holds a Centering Prayer gathering every Monday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Chapel. The time begins with an opening prayer followed by 20 minutes of silent prayer. All are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Participants find it to be a refreshing start to the week and with practice, it can create deep peace.
In the words of theologian Cynthia Bourgeault, "Centering Prayer trains practitioners to recenter themselves in God, become more aware of God's presence, let go of anxiety when it arises, and respond to life's struggles with composure."

Severe Blood & Platelet Shortage
The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage as requests from hospitals exceed the available supply, drawing down the blood supply by about 35% over the past month. The shortage is especially serious for platelets and type O, A negative and B negative blood. Without immediate action, patients face serious risk. Your help is needed right now.
• Hospitals already strained by the worst flu season in nearly 20 years are now also being forced to triage critical blood products. High flu activity in nearly every state may be sidelining donors, slowing efforts to rebuild the Red Cross national blood supply. • During a blood shortage, doctors may face difficult choices about which patients receive blood transfusions and who will need to wait. o Seconds count in emergencies, and it’s the blood already on hospital shelves that helps save lives. When supplies are critically low, trauma surgeons and other doctors face the real possibility that blood could run out when it’s needed most. o Without immediate action, patients who rely on transfusions — including trauma victims, mothers in childbirth, and people with sickle cell disease or cancer — face serious risk.
