The Nueva Vida Food Project, part of the Matthew 25 movement of the PCUSA, is a collaborative ministry of Glencliff Presbyterian Church, Iglesia Presbiteriana Nueva Vida, the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee, and Nourish Food Bank in Murfreesboro. An estimated 500 families a month currently receive assistance from the food bank, with each family being eligible to receive a cart of food designed to be enough to feed a family of 4-5 for a week.

The Food Bank distributes two types of food:

Commodity food that is supplied from the US Dept. of Agriculture. This food comes from Second Harvest Food Bank which holds the contract with the government to distribute commodity food in Tennessee.  Because we are part of the Nourish system, we can get these deliveries directly from Second Harvest (and sometimes from Nourish).

Non-commodity food does not have the same restrictions. Non-commodity food is donated from a variety of sources.  This food is used to supplement when there is a large family or for a family that may not qualify for commodity food.
Westminster volunteers to help sort, pack, and hand out food on the third Saturday of each month.

Needed: Knitted and crocheters to make dishcloths and scrubbys.
For many years, a bag with a bottle of Palmolive dish soap, a knitted dishcloth, and a crocheted/knitted scrubby have been given to homes that Westminster Home Connection has worked on. The thank you notes have been heartwarming!
If you are interested in helping with this amazing project that has been going on for years, let Beth know! We will share the patterns with you!
