| SGA Savors the Sweetest Place on Earth
Senior Golfers returned to Hershey, Pennsylvania, this summer and were delighted with the beautiful area and the wonderful story of Milton Hershey, his candy bars, and his school for orphaned boys. The event opened with drinks in the historic Iberian Lounge and the Hotel Hershey Fountain Lobby, where longtime member, Cathy Shaeffer, was welcomed back, along with her friend from the area, Freddy Welsh.
Jay Breaux, SGA winner at St. Andrews in 2024, was again on top for the event. "This has been a wonderful week for Susan and me," said Jay. "The weather has been fabulous, the town of Hershey is beautiful, and also, we were really not aware of the power of the Hershey story. I can't think of anyone in the history of our great country who has done more in paying it forward than Milton Hershey. I wish some of the billionaires today would act more in the spirit of philanthrophy which he did all those years ago. Hats off to Mr. Hershey!"
Lady winner was the SGA Judge, Jean Spradling. "I have loved being here at Hershey," said Jean. "The courses are beautiful, the area is green and lush, but the real reasons I love to travel with Senior Golfers of America are the people, and the fact that everything always is taken care of. I really appreciate knowing that the leaders will organize the trip so that we all have a good time together. Thanks, everyone, for being here and making it another great SGA event."
Low Net Winners were Sue Arnold and Gene Fortier. Runners-up were Cindy Potter and Bill Suehs. Best Ball Winners were Jay Breaux and Kim & Steve Comstock. Second place team was Sue Arnold, Jeff Leech, and Cindy & Rob Potter. Close to pin winners were Valerie Branowitzer, Jay Breaux, Kim Comstock, Gene Fortier, and Jean Spradling. Appreciation award went to Gary & Jo Ann Claus. Congratulations and best wishes to all!
SGA FoGS Susan Breaux, Peggy Fortier, and Cynthia Swanson loved their historical tour of the hotel, as well as visiting the Hershey Botanical Gardens, where they spotted the Milton Hershey (red) and Catherine Hershey (pink) commemorative roses, and the Hershey Butterfly Atrium. Also the FoGs made a trip out to the Lancaster area, where they enjoyed taking a buggy ride with Marvin, an Amish farmer, through the farmlands, snacking on Amish-made pretzels and root beer, and learning about the Amish Experience from a locally-made film.

Major Motion Picture "HERSHEY" Is Set for 2026 Release
| |
HERSHEY, a major motion picture of chocolate pioneer Milton Hershey and his beloved wife Catherine, "Kitty," is officially set for production beginning in 2025. A must-see movie for chocolate lovers and fans alike, this movie reveals how a man who failed in business multiple times before creating an iconic chocolate empire chose to channel his success into a legacy of education and community that continues to transform lives today. The HERSHEY movie is set to release in 2026, aligning with America's 250th anniversary.
Directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Spiderwick Chronicles, Mr. Popper's Penguins), and starring Finn Wittrock (The Big Short, Don’t Move, American Horror Story) and Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus, True Detective, San Andreas) as Milton and Catherine Hershey. This duo was chosen for their cross-generational appeal. HERSHEY explores the origins of the iconic chocolate empire and the ingredients that have achieved lasting cultural significance.
With Wittrock's commanding yet heartfelt performance, and Daddario's emotional depth and captivating screen presence, the movie should stand the test of time, just like the brand itself.
Senior Golfers were hoping to be a part of the filming in the area, but no crews showed up. However, for our SGA Pittsburgh members, the casting call still is out for anyone who sports muttonchop whiskers!
