Dear Tulane Community,
Hurricane season begins June 1 and lasts through November 30.
The Office of Emergency Preparedness & Response has developed a comprehensive policy for weather events, including hurricanes, that may require either evacuation or shelter-in-place. The university's evacuation policy has been carefully created and refined in partnership with our colleagues from across the university, guided by the goal of keeping our community safe.
This policy requires all community members to have a personal evacuation plan. As you complete your required personal evacuation plan, please remember the university's hurricane evacuation policy.
All faculty, staff, and students must have a personal evacuation plan that they can implement without reliance on the university. All students will be expected to activate their personal evacuation plan when the university encourages or requires the activation of personal evacuation plans.
Students who cannot activate their personal evacuation plans may, to the extent possible, receive evacuation assistance from the university. Priority for university-assisted evacuation will be given to on-campus students with financial needs, disabilities, access and functional needs (DAFN), international students, and other students who cannot activate a personal evacuation plan.
To assist students with implementing their personal evacuation plans, the university may provide shuttles to the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), if resources are available and it is safe to do so. For hurricane evacuations, this begins several days before the storm's landfall and continues as long as circumstances permit.
The complete evacuation policy can be found here. It is the responsibility of all members of the Tulane community to familiarize themselves with this policy.
Students, please update your personal evacuation plan in Gibson. Examples of personal evacuation plans are:
