Fresh start: How the Four-Way Test can bring the hope of springtime all year long
by Charlie Price

Sunshine, rain and the refreshing cycle of the seasons has a way of coming around every year, often with renewed urgency for spring cleaning. The mental push to organize, declutter and move forward applies to more than just the spaces we share. Optimism and a sense of order tend to follow, a kind of respect for ourselves and others implied in the positive change.

Applying similar principles to our thoughts and actions never goes out of season. The Four-Way Test, with its focus on fairness and kindness in our social interactions, prepares us with just what’s needed for sunnier days ahead. Choosing to sweep away negativity this spring will have far-reaching effects to help us form connections beyond fair-weather friends. READ MORE

April 2022 - District  5750 News

Rotary shines through:

We’re all very aware at this point of the devastation that is taking place in the world. It’s with sadness that we watch and see loved ones separated from each other and individuals making decisions that they themselves will likely never have to live with or feel the pain. And then insert Rotary, an organization without borders. When those that are elected to lead, just talk, Rotary moves in to serve, when governments can’t decide on which crisis to prioritize, Rotary moves in and problem solves, and when entire countries are at war, Rotary moves in and finds the common ground of serving the needs of food, water, medicine, clothing and shelter. It’s with great pride that I’m part of an organization of doers, which is why I’m very excited to announce our district’s decision to join up with other districts around the world and contribute to the Disaster Relief Fund, where all donations received before the end of April will go towards helping the near 5 million people that have been displaced due to this tragedy. There are those that talk and those that do, thank you for being a doer, thank you for being a Rotarian.

Last, our District Conference registration is now open! After two years apart, we hope to see you all for an evening of celebration at the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City. In addition to an outstanding dinner and program, the museum will be hosting private tours of their galleries for all attendees. Register now!

Rotary Magazine - April 2022

Click here to read the April 2022 issue. The link will take you to your digital copy, which you can read using any common web browser.   As we enter the month of April, we are reminded of the famous line by poet T.S. Eliot: "April is the cruellest month." While spring is bringing signs of new life, the intensifying war in Ukraine is causing needless deaths and destruction.

The Russia-Ukraine war has preoccupied Rotary members around the globe, who worry about both the people of Ukraine and the future of Rotary within Europe's largest country. Thus, in this issue, we highlight the history of Rotary in Ukraine and the lives of our members there over the past decade, including their peacebuilding projects following Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Also in this issue, you'll read about how Rotarians in the United States are working with an all-female anti-poaching unit to prevent rhino poaching and other wildlife crime in a South African game preserve.
In addition, you'll find a story about a partnership between The Rotary Foundation (Canada) and a branch of the Canadian government; it aims to improve health, education, and economic development around the world.

In the Our Clubs section, we introduce you to an "exotic" Rotary club in Australia. Among its members are a number of koala lovers, who are dedicated to conservation and saving the precious koalas.

Rotary Club of Oklahoma City - Ukrainian Disaster Relief Grant

The Rotary Club of Oklahoma City and its associated Rotary Club 29 Foundation gave the largest international disaster relief grant in its 113-year history, a gift of $42,000 to aid Ukrainian refugees.

“The members of The Rotary Club of Oklahoma City opened their hearts and provided their resources to help with the plight of Ukrainian refugees,” said club president Jerrod Shouse. “That’s what Rotarians do — they act. And a large club such as ours can act quickly and generously when we see such dire need.”

Of the funds raised, $32,000 will go directly to the Rotary Club of Warsaw, Poland with which the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City has worked on previous projects.  The other $10,000 will be contributed to The Rotary Foundation Disaster Relief Fund, which will grant financial aid through Rotary districts in and around Ukraine.

“Rotary Club 29 volunteers working through our club’s World Service Committee organized an impressive, fast, and generous response to this crisis,” said Rotary Club 29 Foundation Chair David Walters. “We are proud to support their efforts.”
