Lakers, it’s your time to shine because GV’s Got Talent auditions are happening soon! You can sing, dance, do magic, or perform any talent you have up your sleeve. If you get through auditions, you’ll be able to perform at the big show on March 12! Talent show winners will receive academic scholarships and a chance to perform as the Spring Concert opener, so show off your skills in the competition of a lifetime!

Celebrate Black History Month

During February, celebrate Black History Month with different events around campus! Kick off the month at the Blackout, where you can learn how to get involved in Black student organizations. Attend can’t-miss events like a Live Museum presented by the GVSU National Pan-Hellenic Council and the Taste of Soul event where you can eat delicious food and learn about soul food’s historical significance. With activities going on all month, you better mark your calendars!

Sex Ed Week is coming soon with lots of opportunities for open conversations about sexual health and relationships. Fortunately, it won’t be like your typical high school health class. Instead, there will be tons of fun events like workshops, a mocktail paint and sip, and STI-themed escape rooms! Learn all you need to know about all things sex in a judgement-free zone.

Drop-In Service Opportunity!

Tuesday, Feb. 11 | 2 - 4 p.m. | Thornapple Room (Kirkhof 0058)

The Office of Student Life is hosting Drop-In Days of Service! Every month you can drop in, volunteer, and learn about nonprofit organizations. Next week, you can choose between decorating lunch bags for Kids Food Basket or packing sexual health supplies for the Ottawa County Department of Public Health. Get more involved in your community and earn service hours!

Get QPR Certified and Save a Life

Tuesday, Feb. 11 | 12 -1 p.m. | Kirkhof 2270

If you’re interested in mental health and saving lives, attend the QPR Suicide Prevention Training hosted by the University Counseling Center. Examine the issue of suicide from multiple perspectives while learning about your role in preventing suicide with other students, faculty, and staff. There will be multiple sessions throughout the semester so be on the lookout for more information!

Did you know? The Department of Alcohol & Other Drugs Services (AOD) offers a variety of support programs for students dealing with addiction:

• Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

• Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families (ACA)

• SMART Recovery

• Marijuana Anonymous (MA)

There’s never a bad time to find support for substance misuse, and these programs offer practical tools for recovery. The GVSU community is here for you!
