Wild Resource Conservation Program Grants Announced

DCNR recently announced more than $440,000 in grants for projects that will help protect Pennsylvania’s native biodiversity.
The grants were part of the Wild Resource Conservation Program. Twelve projects received awards.
Launched in 1982, the Wild Resource Conservation Program encourages and supports research and protection efforts to conserve Pennsylvania’s diverse native wildlife resources, including bird and mammal species, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and wild plants.
Pennsylvanians can support the program through the new Eastern hellbender or river otter license plates, or contributions to the fund through a tax check-off program.

Grant Application Tip

The DCNR Community Conservation Partnerships Program is accepting applications through 4:00 PM on Wednesday, April 3. In each e-news leading up to the deadline, we’ll share a tip to increase your chances of a successful application.
This issue’s tip: Make sure your project is “ready to go.”
Many projects we fund require several years to complete. That’s why we like projects that can begin work soon after the grant is awarded.
Each grant type has its own ready-to-go checklist. You can find these checklists by visiting the Grant Customer Service Portal. To find them:
  1. Click on “Grant Opportunities.”
  2. Find the project type you plan on applying for and click its “More info” button.
  3. Under “Guidance Documents,” click the “Ready-to-Go Checklist” link to open it.
Ready-to-go needs account for 15 of an application’s possible 100 points. If your project isn’t ready to go, it’s unlikely to be funded.
A few common ready-to-go needs include:
  • All matching funds are secure at the time of application
  • Budgets are detailed and realistic
  • For construction projects, your organization owns the land or has a long-term lease (at least 25 years)
