Visit the 2023 BFA Exhibition

CIA seniors pour themselves into their capstone projects: their bachelor of fine arts (BFA) exhibitions. Join us from 7 to 9pm Friday, May 12 for a closing celebration and for an opportunity to view the work. The exhibitions will remain on view to the public on Saturday and Sunday, May 13–14, from noon to 6pm. Davis '90, Blair and Gascoigne recognized by CIA

Artist Dexter Davis '90, arts advocate William P. Blair III and CIA Board of Directors chair Cynthia Prior Gascoigne were all recipients of CIA's Awards for Excellence. Davis received the Award for Artistic Achievement, and Blair (posthumously) and Gascoigne each received an Award for Service during an April 27 ceremony in the Peter B. Lewis Theater. 
The Award for Artistic Achievement honors individuals with strong connections to the College who have made a significant contribution to the visual arts locally, nationally or internationally by producing a substantial and noteworthy body of work. The Award for Service honors individuals and organizations that have supported and advanced art and design at the College through financial contributions, leadership and advocacy. 

CIA Animation chair recognized by Crain's Cleveland

Anthony Scalmato '07, the department chair of Animation, has been recognized as one of Crain’s Business Cleveland's 30 Notables in Education Leadership. Crain's cited his commitment to the highest standard of art and design, his re-envisioning of the department upon his arrival in 2013, and his development of an industry-faculty curriculum that prepares students to work in the crowded animation field. CIA's Animation program was recently ranked number 13 on the list of the Top 50 Schools for Creative Media and Entertainment by the Rookies. 

Gloria Mark '78 named 2023 Commencement speaker

Professor, researcher and author Gloria Mark will serve as Commencement speaker for CIA’s Class of 2023. Mark is Chancellor’s Professor of Informatics at the University of California, Irvine and her primary research interest is in understanding the impact of digital media on people's lives, a subject she explores in her widely acclaimed book, Attention Span. Join CIA President at Detroit event

We hope you will save the date of Thursday, June 8 as CIA President + CEO Kathryn Heidemann welcomes our alumni and friends in the Detroit area to a reception. You will have a chance to connect with CIA’s new president, learn about recent initiatives and priorities for the future, and mingle with fellow Detroit-area alumni and friends. We are looking forward to meeting our alumni in art and design, and if you are in Detroit for the 2023 Glass Art Society conference please come see us! 

Reinberger Gallery celebrates 50 years of CIA glass

Fifty years after the Glass program began, Risk + Discovery: Glass Innovation at CIA celebrates glass in all its forms, drawing connections to the unique learning environment of the college and its influence on the creative vocabulary of the region and beyond. The exhibition features work by makers working in glass or whose creative practice was influenced by the program’s pedagogy, including current and former CIA faculty, technical specialists, alumni and students. Student work delights during 2023 Spring Show

CIA celebrated the work of students across all majors during the 2023 Spring Show. The week opened with Creature Feature: A Runway Show, a student-organized event of wearable art. 2023 Alumni Exhibition submissions open

It is with great excitement that CIA's Alumni Council announces the 2023 Alumni Exhibition: Come, Rest Here by My Side. The show will run from July 14 through August 11 in Reinberger Gallery. Submissions will be accepted through May 22, and all alumni are encouraged to apply. All mediums are welcome. The exhibtion will be juried by CIA Printmaking alum Clotilde Jiménez ’13 and illustrator Lee White. This year's exhibition committee members are Cherie Bauer '81, Deborah Pinter '88, Lauren Chaikin '09, Karen Sandstrom '12 and Amani Williams '21. To apply, click here. Ray Burggraf '68 is included on page 29 of Florida Sculptors and Their Work 1880-2020 by Deborah C. Pollock from Schiffer Publishing, 2022. 
Babs Reingold '78 had work in a three-person show, Beauty In Climax, at Department of Contemporary Art Tampa in Florida. 
Cynthia Roach '82 won the Best of Miniatures Award from the San Diego Watercolor Society for her painting “Safe Haven.”
Deborah Pinter '88 will serve as a juror for Art of the State at The State Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. 
Susan Donovan Lowe '89 has work in Paper: A Closer Look in the Lobby Gallery at 200 Public Square in Cleveland through July 5. 
Jean Wells '90 won the top prize in the 14th Annual International Peeps® Art Exhibition at the Racine Art Museum in Racine, Wisconsin. 
Sreshta Rit Premnath '03 has work in A Gathering in the Making at Someday Gallery in New York through May 20.
Laura Marsh '06 has work in Unsolicited Advice at HUB Gallery at Penn State University through July 16. 
Jessica Birchfield '09 was recently named design director for Moen, which is based in North Olmsted, Ohio.

Georgio Sabino III '09 has work in Artistic Jungle at Trudy Wiesenberger Gallery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland.
Chris McConnell '12 set the world record for creating the World’s Largest Amish Horse and Buggy Monument.
Nikki Woods '12 has work in a group exhibition, Rooted in Presence, from May 13 through June 3 at River House Arts in Toledo, Ohio. Crystal Miller '23 also has work in the show.
Emily Hromi '14 was recently interviewed by Lions and Rabbits Center for the Arts.

Noah Cutwright '18 had an animated short featured on Comedy Central's "The Drawing Board," a new program in partnership with Yes, And… Laughter Lab that highlights rising animation talent. 
Mark Rubelowsky '19 won first, second and third-place prizes for work in the 31st Annual Juried Show with Rabbit Run and Madison Public Library in Madison, Ohio. 
Alex Heard '20 has work in The Animal Kind at Kaiser Gallery in Cleveland through June 4. 
Violet Maimbourg '21 had a piece included in the Prague International Art Exhbition in the Czech Republic and two pieces in the 2023 National Juried Exhbition at the Delaplaine Arts Center in Fredrick, Maryland. Work also appears in Anything But A Canvas at Ground Floor Artists in Surprise, Arizona. 
Zharia Rahn '21 worked as a prop designer for the Disney series, The Owl House.
