It may be "April Fools" but we're not kidding when we put one of our most popular aircraft in the skies for everyone to enjoy. Come out to the Museum this Saturday for a treat with the Flying Demo of the Museum's very own Lockheed P-38J "Lightning" aircraft.

Doors to the Museum will open at 9:00am (Visit our Website to learn more about Road Closures and Alternate Routes due to nearby construction). Regular admission pricing is in effect (Members always get in Free!).

Hollywood Goes to War Part IV

Over the past several months, we've looked at the role that the Hollywood film industry played during World War II. We've seen how the industry rallied to support recruitment of men and women to industry and the military. How Hollywood turned its tricks and techniques to work to help train the millions of service men and women. How Hollywood stars helped with War Bond Drives and Morale boosting on the homefront and in the combat zone.

Today, in the final episode, the Museum's Brian Finnegan will tell the stories of the stars who put on the uniform or helped in the service of the cause. We'll hear about established stars who went to war and individuals who would make their marks on the film industry after putting aside their uniforms and experiences in the combat zone.

The True Story of "Operation Vengeance"

Eighty years ago this month, the United States targeted an individual for the first time in its military history.

That individual was the mastermind of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the chief strategist of the Japanese war effort - Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto.

The Museum's Richard Malvino will walk us step-by-step through the events of April 1943 when the United States military intercepted Japanese coded messages that told of Yamamoto's itinerary. Using the Lockheed P-38 "Lightning" interceptor aircraft, a bold and daring mission was launched in the South Pacific to seek and destroy the aircraft that was carrying Yamamoto. This story is the stuff of legend!

TED Talk: "Dick Merrill - An Ordinary Guy Who Lived an Extraordinary Life"

The Museum's Ted Mount will once again delight us with a story from aviation's past as he tells the little known but remarkable story of aviator Dick Merrill.

From the early days of aviation in the 1920s to the supersonic age of the 1970s, Dick Merrill was there. Never one to toot his own horn, Merrill nevertheless set records and advanced aviation for the generations that followed. Ted will walk us through Dick Merrill's life of achievements, leaving us with a sense of awe and inspiration.

"Flying Demos"

This is your chance to see the famous Lockheed P-39 "Lightning" take to the skies in our April 1st "Flying Demo."

The P-38 is a fan-favorite and never fails to deliver a true sense of excitement as it starts its engines right before the crowd, taxis away, and flies overhead for twenty minutes.

The "Flying Demo" will begin at 12:15pm when the Museum's Richard Malvino will give us a brief talk on the development and history of this amazing World War Two era fighter-interceptor.

Then, pilot Kevin Eldridge will start both Allison engines and taxi just a few safe feet away from the crowd. Kevin will then put the aircraft through its paces overhead with an aerial display that is sure to delight.

Upon his return, guests can meet Kevin and ask questions about what it's like to fly this incredible machine.

Make It a Full Day

With nearly 100 aircraft on display in our seven hangars, and our Museum Guides and historical re-enactors there to help, you'll discover the fascinating history of aviation.

And you won't go hungry either. We've got Food and Coffee trucks on the Museum campus, or, make the trek over to nearby Flo's Airport Cafe for a taste of Chino history. Your Museum admission sticker gets you 10% off your bill at Flo's (and gets you re-entry into the Museum!).

We'll have our Youth Programs team prepped with activities for our youngest visitors, and there's plenty of new items in our Gift Shop.

Our Member's Only Raffle Drawing will be held during the "Flying Demo" for some great prizes - including a flight for one lucky winner in our Vultee BT-13 "Valiant" trainer from World War II.

All in all, a visit to the Planes of Fame Air Museum this Saturday, April 1st, 2023 is a great way to spend the day and build some long time memories.

"Wheels, Tracks, and Wings" is Back and Bigger Than Ever!

Two Day Event – May 6th and May 7th, 2023

Featuring Multiple "Flying Demos," Military Vehicles, Historical Reenactors, Presentations and a Special Performance by the Museum's Sherman M4 Tank!

We're pulling together a unique event that we hope becomes a tradition at the Museum. On May 6th and May 7th we've invited scores of military vehicles - jeeps, trucks, cars, and tracked vehicles along with dozens of historical reenactors to present "Wheels, Tracks, and Wings."

Lots to See and Do!

There will be plenty of action on the ground and in the air as we're putting on three Flying Demos on both days! Guests to this event will see the Museum's North American B-25 "Mitchell" medium bomber in one Flying Demo and our Vought F4U "Corsair" in another and our Curtiss P-40 "Warhawk" in a third Flying Demo.

Plus, Museum Members will have shots at winning one of three flights in the Vultee BT-13B.

"Hangar Talk" will be performed both days and we'll have several other demonstrations and learning opportunities throughout the campus. The highlight will be a unique demonstration of the Museum's Sherman M4 Tank!

We've got great food and beverage lined up (Beer provided by Hangar 24 Brewery) and there will be lots of fun activities for our younger visitors.
