First Visits, Lasting Impressions
by Dr. Sally Mingarelli, president-elect
As I prepare to step into the presidency this July, my transition year has been shaped by connection — and by my first visits to our campuses in France, Italy, and Spain. On the ground, I saw what defines SYA: students building confidence through challenge, embracing mistakes, and growing both independently and together.
From dynamic classrooms in Rennes to reflective conversations in Viterbo and the deep sense of belonging fostered by host families in Zaragoza, learning extended far beyond the classroom — into cities, cultures, and daily life. Across each campus, passionate, student-centered educators bring this experience to life.
These visits affirmed SYA’s lasting impact and deepen my excitement for the work ahead as we continue to listen, learn, and shape the future together.

Filled with gratitude ... and a full guest list! |
Alumni, families and former colleagues from across campuses and decades have made their plans to return — and we are now at capacity, with a waitlist in place. In one week, we’ll gather in Viterbo to retrace cobblestone steps, celebrate milestones and the community that made this quarter century unforgettable.
Please note that pre-registration was mandatory for this event. If you have made plans to attend, but have not registered, please contact us immediately.

Through Their Eyes: Discovery in Motion
From classrooms to coastlines, courtrooms to cathedrals, our student storytellers continue to uncover what it means to truly live abroad.
Students dive into defining moments across SYA’s campuses — from navigating the open-ended challenge of the Capstone in Italy; to walking the historic Camino de Santiago in Spain; to embracing spontaneity and discovery along the Côte d’Azur in France. Each story reflects the same thread: growth through experience, curiosity and the confidence to embrace the unexpected.

When alums visit, campus life gets a little brighter. Whether returning to their own campus or exploring another SYA location, it’s a chance to speak with students, share their own experiences abroad and see how life at SYA continues to evolve — from the classroom to the community.
