Teacher of the Month - November 2024

In cooperation with the Mayor's office and City Council, the Rotary Club of Okla. City recognizes an outstanding teacher in our community.
Jorge "Mario" Roldan is the November 2024 Teacher of the Month, and was named the 2023-24 Crooked Oak Public Schools District Teacher of the Year.  Mario  serves as the Spanish teacher at Crooked Oak High School, where he delivers top-quality classroom instruction, collaborates and plans with teammates, and works with parents and community members.  He has taught in Okla. since 2006, and at Crooked Oaks since 2011.  During this time, he has won numerous awards.
Mario works tirelessly to meet his students’ individual learning needs by differentiating their instruction and working to accommodate their various learning styles. He loves it when a student who speaks absolutely no Spanish comes into his class and really starts to understand.  It is an honor to him when alumni seek him out to tell of their careers, families, and future endeavors.
Mario is extremely passionate about touching the lives of his students through teaching and developing relationships.  Some of his greatest memories include playing the guitar with students during lunchtime, teaching a student how to play bass, starting an anime club, and playing countless chess games.

Mario believes that young lives can be changed when we take the time to truly know them.
Congratulations, Mario!

In taking part of WINGS of Rotary, students learn a new way of living, a great deal about themselves, and maybe even a new language. They will  be ambassadors, teaching people they meet about their country, culture, and ideas. Help bring the world closer - and make some good friends in the process.

More than 8,000 young people each year have experiences like these through Rotary Youth Exchanges. It's the opportunity of a lifetime. Do you know any students who would be interested?  Contact Keith Oehlert, District 5750 Wings Chair    Application
