Preserving a Foundational Piece of Vanderbilt's Astronomy Story
The Garland Collection, many pieces long displayed in Dyer's main lobby, features instruments acquired in the early 1870's by Chancellor Landon Garland during his travels through Europe. These tools were used in the university's first physics and astronomy courses.
The collection at Dyer has been relocated to Vanderbilt Special Collections for careful cataloguing, preservation and display, with pieces returning to Dyer Observatory in the future for special exhibitions.
