August Teacher of the Month

Each month in cooperation with the Mayor’s office and City Council, the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City has the opportunity and pleasure of recognizing an outstanding teacher in our community.

McKenzie Hodge has been a teacher in the Okla. City Public School System for 6 years and teaches 5th grade science at Wheeler Elementary. She received a degree in Education from UCO, and believes it is crucial for teachers to set examples for students by continuing to learn and improve. She has attended professional development on the district and national level, including a national conference challenging educators to think next level with new ways to reach the 21st century learner.

McKenzie's philosophy of teaching is centered around the idea of “no matter what you’re teaching, make it to the dinner table.” She strives to teach, engage and encourage students in a way that “lessons can arouse an excitement that inspires students to take the learning beyond the four walls of the classroom. ”
McKenzie is active in her church and volunteers in the community as well as her school. She has served as a Course Marshal for the past four years with the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon; cheer coach for her school; sponsor for the Fellowship for Christian Athletes; and attends students’ weekend sports events.
