Exploring Off-Campus Work Opportunities in the U.S.
Thinking about working in the U.S. after you graduate?
International students (on F-1 status) can apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) for off-campus work authorization to gain experience in their major field of study after completion of program requirements.
ISSS staff will present information about the OPT process at an upcoming online info session on Wednesday, April 26 from 12-1pm.
Thinking about an internship or co-op during your studies?
Review information on Curricular Practical Training (CPT). Reminder that you should submit your CPT request to ISSS at least 3 or more weeks prior to your employment start date.
Note: International students are not permitted to engage in any off-campus work without first obtaining authorization. Work means receiving compensation for your services. Off-campus means any entity that is not Miami University.

Planning to Travel Outside the U.S.?
Before traveling outside the U.S., international students should consider and check for updates regarding:
| |
Active F-1 or J-1 students must have a valid travel signature to re-enter the U.S. Review your SEVIS document (second page of I-20 or first page of DS-2019) to see if it has been signed for travel. A travel signature can be used for entry into the U.S. for one year from the day it was signed, provided that you have remained enrolled full-time at Miami, your document has not expired, and your major has not changed. To re-enter the U.S. in August 2023 a travel signature should be dated September 2022 or after.
Spring Cleaning? Preparing to move? Want to help new internationalstudents?
If you are in the process of cleaning out your current residence and no longer in need of any of the following:
- homegoods (dishes, pans, utensils, etc.)
-
small electronics (hair dryer, fan, etc.)
- new/unused bedding or towels
- new/unopened snacks/food
- lightly used winter coats or other winter gear
- bikes
Then, please consider passing forward to ISSS. We will be creating a space to share these items with incoming new international students for Fall 2023. Please drop-off at MacMillan Hall, 017, or contact desmonl@MiamiOH.edu for details.
