UTA grad applies her unique MEd to school systems

Former teacher Emily Cole (’23 MEd) wanted a career change outside of the traditional curriculum path, so she turned to UTA’s master’s degree in mind, brain, and education, a unique online program about the science of learning. Cole leveraged her degree to secure a position as a program consultant with the New Teacher Center, which supports learning for underserved students by improving educator effectiveness. Economics professors research home prices
|
UTA economics Professor C.Y. Choi and Associate Professor Aaron Smallwood recently published a study showing that U.S. housing prices have grown more persistently since the mid-1990s. They link this steady incline primarily to the increase in available purchasing power, which makes it easier for people to buy homes and causes demand to rise.

A HELP workshop is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 15, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in Room 256 of the Engineering Lab Building. Updated hours for UTA Libraries
|
UTA Libraries has announced new hours of operation for the Central Library, the West Campus Library, and the Science and Engineering Library. The changes were made to optimize resources and enhance research support. Reallocating resources to peak hours will enable better service to patrons. The Central Library will extend its hours during exam periods to meet students’ needs. View the frequently asked questions page for more information about this update.

UTA to offer drone course
|
This fall, UTA will launch a new course where students can gain a license to operate commercial drones. Zhe Yin, assistant professor of instruction in the Department of Civil Engineering, said he hopes the course gives students a competitive edge as they enter the job market.

All student positions modified to over 19 hours for the summer months must be modified back to 19 hours on Saturday, Aug. 17, per the Student Employment policy HR-E-PO-11. This does not apply to College Work Experience Program positions, as they will remain at 25 hours. Reporting to the Legislative Budget Board
|
Texas requires institutions of higher education to report spending greater than $5,000 per person on a training course, education course, or education program taken by an individual employee or administrator for a professional license, certification, or degree. If your department has employees to report, complete the spreadsheet and email it to Joe White, director of Procurement and Payment Services, before Friday, Aug. 16. This information is reported to the Legislative Budget Board (LBB) each fiscal year. Read more about the LBB Training Report.

The fourth annual Texas Health Informatics Alliance Conference will be held Friday, Sept. 20, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Bluebonnet Ballroom of the University Center. The conference will bring together the health informatics community in Texas, provide an opportunity to share work, and feature presentations and speakers. Registration closes Friday, Aug. 30.
