Sacramento State's Día de los Muertos celebration brought together students, faculty, staff and the community for a rich cultural experience. The festivities included a procession, workshops and community art projects, connecting participants with Mexican and Central American traditions.
“Día de los Muertos is an important celebration because it brings people together, fostering a sense of community and belonging,” said Sac State Hispanic-Serving Institution Director Lilia Contreras. “On campus, this tradition can transform the space into a welcoming home away from home, as students, staff and community members come together to honor and pay tribute to their ancestors and loved ones.”
As part of Assistant Professor of Art Luis Garcia's "Barrio Art in the Community" course, students from Washington Elementary School and Hiram Johnson Adult High School visited campus to participate in the festivities and connect with Sac State students and programs.
