A graduating class that included many students whose high school and community college graduations were canceled four years ago because of the pandemic got its moment in the spotlight during a celebratory Commencement weekend, May 17-49.
More than 9,700 graduates – a record – received their degrees this year, and thousands gathered at Golden 1 Center in Downtown Sacramento to mark their accomplishments. Presiding over his first Commencement as Sac State's president, Luke Wood praised their dedication, resilience and passion.
“Sac State is renowned for providing a pathway to the ones who’ve been doubted, the ones who’ve been held back, the ones who’ve been held down, who others said they aren’t, they can’t and they won’t,” Wood said. “And then Sacramento State provides you with an environment to show the world that nothing – nothing – can stop you.”
