New program allows students free reclaimed bike loans

UTA is offering a change in gear for Mavericks who want to give cycling a try through a partnership with the Bike Barn.

Launched in August, the two-year pilot program allows students the opportunity to borrow reclaimed bicycles at no cost by requesting a semester-long bike loan permit via their MavPark portal and joining a waitlist.

Once approved, borrowers will receive loan agreements and bike assignment details via email, then retrieve and return their bikes at the end of the semester.

This initiative supports UTA’s sustainability goals and involves collaboration among Parking & Transportation Services, UTA Libraries, Student Affairs, and the Office of Sustainability. The Bike Barn also offers drop-in DIY repair assistance from Monday through Friday, 10  a.m. to 3  p.m., helping students maintain their borrowed bicycles throughout the semester and build critical bike repair and ownership skills.

Get ready for a muddy good time at Oozeball

Oozeball, voted “most popular tradition on campus,” is an annual campus-wide mud volleyball tournament that takes place Friday, Sept. 19.

Why it matters: Teams of six players will battle it out in the muddy volleyball courts on the corner of Summit Ave. and Greek Row to determine the overall Oozeball champion. Whether you are in it to win it or just looking for a muddy good time, this is a tradition you cannot pass up.

Important details: The registration deadline for this year's tournament is Monday, Sept. 15. Late entries will be added to a waiting list. Mavericks looking to get muddy can register in groups or as single players. There is a $60 application fee for groups and a $15 fee for single entrants. Registration is available online or in person at the Maverick Activities Center services and information desk.

UTA Libraries launches user experience survey

UTA Libraries is excited to announce the launch of a comprehensive user experience survey designed to better understand the needs, preferences, and priorities of its patrons, including students, faculty, and staff. The survey opened Sept. 8.

The brief and user-friendly questionnaire will take about five to 10 minutes to complete and asks participants about their use of library resources such as print journals, interlibrary loan services and research services, as well as their preferences for library spaces and study environments. It also explores how users begin their research journey, whether through Google, the Libraries’ website, or other means.
